I suggest dropping these reports, and instead publishing two or three targeted articles with a bit of background story in them, directing players to an activity highlighting a particular conflict zone where players could swing the result, or something like that. Competing factions appealing for particular kinds of aid in a system, etc.

"System X is having an election"...I don't know what to do with that, plus it doesn't sound very interesting to me.

I generally like the idea and would actually love to see Galnet news expanding. But the way it's published is kinda limited for a couple of reasons. Most of this would be better placed in the galaxy map with a filter or as routes.
Systems with conflicts are interesting and maybe should have a filter. Expansions should really be shown like trade routes. So we can see where a faction is expanding from A to B. That would be a bit more useful in the game. The way it's now is a bit of a crutch but better than nothing.

And pretty please give us yellow pages. It somewhat works to look up factions on eddb but it's really a feature I'd expect to be searchable in the game.

Keep the information, but report it in new ways. Use the galaxy map to identify systems and factions highlighted in galnet now and recent past. I'm guessing only the most experienced players know what to do with the info within the reports.

Also as an outsider, I don't know what to do with power play reports at all.

Although I like the idea, I don't think that they lend enough context to the player experience (mainly because they are so broad and wide ranging). Does knowing that there are thousands of systems in civil war really tell us anything..?

If you could find a way to regionalise them and make them accessible from nearby stations (e.g. the local news reports on civil wars etc in a 30LY radius) that would make them much more powerful.

This. A thousand times this. I would love go be able to land at a station, hit the local news feed and see that there is a war going on 3 systems away. If I could do that, it would help greatly with the immersion and I could go out of the way to help one side or the other, or even play them both.

I just thought of one report that is missing and could add to player engagement.

Traffic Reports! Top 10?

Hey?! lol..

Yes this!

Also I feel like I have trouble interpreting the reports. So Systems in Civil War will be a place to find CZs, Powers updates and Expansion. Easy enough to understand I guess but...

The economic report says "factions experiencing economic growth" I thought would equal out to better paying missions or whatever incentive for a pilot to fly there but found nothing of interest upon going there. Health hotspots, I have no rightly idea what this means to our hermetically sealed cockpits.

I feel like some of the reports are good and helpful to pilots who know how to use them and others are just filler material (Disclaimer: I may not know how to use the reports though)

I agree I feel this would be the best way to do the news. But time taken to publish the news individually for the devs vs. them working on other things is of concern to me. Maybe news limited to the control systems will have news related to it's sector I think this would be nice then you would know where to go for news. But again time to write the report into game for the devs is what concerns me. Maybe an auto generated code e.g. HIP 16607 (Control System) monitors all of it's exploited systems for war zones, economics, security and maybe powerplay effect on the system. Then gets published on HIP 16607's local news feed instead of GalNet. Galnet should be reserved for bubble-wide things, powerplay, CGs, Thargoids.

Most news refers to a particular place or area in the galaxy. Why not use the Galaxy map as a browser for the news and other data.

Can you help us understand what the benefits of such reports are? It may be that some of them are useful and others not. For example some of these states might lead you to go to a system to benefit from higher / lower trade prices or whatever?
