Pulled from supercruise when game was paused.

Anyway..I was getting back into the game over the past couple of days. Building rep etc.etc.I decided to try mining LTD's. I have just spent 6 hours mining and figuring it all out and had 161 Low Temp Diamonds in my hold. I was in Solo play and heading to the Eurybia system. I got interdicted a couple of times. got away once and dropped 2 tonnes the next time. On my approach to Gill Point I paused the game while i took some food out the oven. Next thing i know the game starts all by itself and a ship has pulled me out of super cruise and killed me. Never asked for any cargo. Just blew me up.
No idea why this would happen but i can honestly say my "getting back into the game" is now over permanently.

Yep, solo play is just a game mode where you don't see any other players, but it still runs on the same server, which means that even if you go to the main menu or exit the game, everything in the galaxy is still going on at the same time

You can't pause the game because you're not the only person playing it, so just don't idle while in super cruise. If you're going to idle, exit to normal space where pirates won't be able to see you

there is no pause - the game runs all the time - you have to exit to main menu or exit to desktop

don't blame the game for your lack of basic understanding
A bit harsh to be honest since Frontier literally refer to it as "pause" somewhere (can't remember where but I've definitely seen it called that and thought it was misleading). But yeah, unless you actually exit to the main menu (or quit the game entirely) then your ship is still right there in the game for npc's to see (and other players unless you're in solo mode).

As Stigbob would say, PEBCAKE! (or something like that)

A gift for your future use:

I want a sign I can hang on my ship - "I am doing dishes, please don't interdict me!" It's not good grabbing a controller with wet hands.

Yes a long time ago it was listed as Pause I am sure you are correct - even today the default key for "menu" is "P".

admitingly I suffer from a kinda sign blindness my self in a world which is so full of them they can kinda camouflage each other as sensory overload bombardment as there are just so many, causing me to ignor themo_Oand in elite some are so fast its boarderline subliminal w. t. f. was that?
