Newcomer / Intro Pulling my hair out trying to get my new TWCS Throttle to work in the Z-Axis using TARGET software

I am brand new to Elite Dangerous and I have not even started playing it yet. I purchased a T.16000M FCS Hotas (with no rudder pedals) and I am having a hard time getting started with the first training mission because I cannot get the darn throttle to work. I have installed the Thrustmaster TARGET software, T.A.R.G.E.T_FCS_HOTAS.1.8.binds and loaded the FCS Hotas Elite Dangerous .fcf file.

It seems like everything is working except for the damn Throttle Z-Axis. When I run the Device Analyzer I can see that it responds to moving the Z-Axis but when I try it in the event tester or in the first training mission it does not respond.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Don't use the TARGET software - calibrate the controls in Windows - start E D - select the controls from the drop-down (if required) and go do the training.

If all else fails - open your Options/Controls menu in the game, scroll down to throttle axis and set it there (you will end up changing other settings anyway).

A heads-up - when you do get around to changing your bindings do not keep back-up copies in the same directory (%LOCALAPPDATA%\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings) - save them in another directory.

+1 I initially installed the TARGET software too, but don't use it for ED, as the game runs perfectly without it. Windows calibration plus ingame bindings are all you need.

O7,

Thanks.

I was only using the TARGET software because it seemed like the easiest for a newbie that doesn't know anything. :)

I have never played any games before so I don't know what "Calibrate the controls in Windows" mean. Is this part of the Windows OS or am I supposed to do this in some sort of Thrustmaster device driver?

There's nothing wrong with the TARGET software.
Just because other people prefer to do something differently does mean that they're right and you're wrong.

Before you throw everything away and start from scratch elsewhere check this out.

Open TARGET GUI.
Load your file and choose Edit - not Run.

Then check the settings in the box shown.
Experiment with different axes.

In Windo$e go to "devices and printers" - right click your game controller - select "game controller settings" - in the next box select the game controller you want to test / calibrate - click "properties" button - then select required tab - "Settings" to get to the calibration (a wizard) or "Test" to just test the operation of the axes and buttons.

Never played games before and you choose Elite Dangerous to start off with! :D

Anyway stick with it and keep coming back here for any help.
