Pulse Wave Analyser, pointless?

Hello fellow miners, I've just run a couple of tests. (deep core mining only)

Test 1

Mined for 1 hour using the pulse wave and only prospecting the bright 'yellow' asteroids

Total cores found: 2
Test 1 repeated in another 'hotspot'
Total cores found: 3

Test 2

Mined for 1 hour not using the pulse wave analyser and instead, just prospecting asteroids at random

Total cores found: 4
Test 2 repeated in another 'hotspot'
Total cores found: 5

I know this is only a very small test sample but still, it is rather pointing at the fact the pulse wave analyser is pretty useless?

Your thoughts?

I think it seems like a pointless step in the process.

I think I'm getting scanner fatigue

Have you considered doing both? You can still mine in the classic fashion, using prospectors and strip mining while also using the PWS to look for lucrative asteroids to crack open. Why limit yourself to one or the other if you don't have to?

tbh I've spent several years mining the normal way and although it's totally fine, I really like the appeal of being purely a deep core miner. (besides, that's really not the point is it? my point is the PWA doesn't seem to be much use)

I've not done any extensive testing to see which is more profitable but I've been using the PWA to "see" breakable asteroids that are much further out than my prospector will go. With my mining rig, I can hit the PWA while my prospector is flying toward a random asteroid. If I see something yellow/orange in the distance, I know to fly that direction while continuing to prospect in the classic fashion.

Not useless. You're doing it wrong.

PWS will show you all crackable/drillable type rocks, but not all rocks have valuable cores. For those you want to look for darker glows. In my mining thread there are some examples - the valuable cores in the ice rings for me and other last night were glowing red and darker colors.

So don't shoot prospectors at everything that glows yellow. Rather, when you see something bright yellow (or even better, with reds/blacks) in the distance, go zero in on it and see if you get those strong red signals. That will have a valuable core.

By doing it this way you will be saving time, limpets, and frustration.

Rep +1. I see it if you can't find one use the other.
