Pulse weapons ftw

Gimballed or fixed pulse weapons are far more powerful than anything else in the game

They do a little less damage than beam weapons but can be fired far far far longer so over 10 seconds do far more damage even if all shots of both weapons all hit

They also do better than multicannons who rarely hit even when gimballed unless your playing chicken with your quarry going towards eachother head on.

Plus as I die alot when 6 ships gang up on me, pulse weapons are far easier to pay insurance for. Win-win.

Keep practising with the multi cannons and maybe try out the railguns. Both weapons require skill to use, even gimballed cannons at range. ;)

Just cause they require skill to use does not mean they are better

the OP is right.

I'm sure posters will share their experiences and thought about the different weapon systems.
In my experience, well aimed multi cannon rounds shred hulls quicker than pulse lasers. Rail guns smash both shield and hull with equal zeal. Both seem to penetrate to sub systems better.
These two weapon types are not hit scan. I think FD are trying to balance off elements within the game in terms of skill/playability.

May be this is due to beam lasers being bugged?

And you simply do not know how to use multi-cannons as if used wisely they give you significant advantage in combat against any enemy.

the eagle paired with 3 fixed pulse is my layout of choice. don't even bother with gimballing. although i do like the multi cannons for freeing up pips to eng and sys.
