Firing a weapon is maybe too much attention sometimes though and I would just like to calmly but firmly melee on the window or on the door, you know?
And then they might radio for security or ignore or open the door (with the usual warm greetings like "What do you want?" and "Of all the places in the galaxy you chose to come here?"). Perhaps it depend on their job, security level, and the site security level, for example.
I suppose you could also install a door bell. But I think by the 34th century and with all the fallability of power outages at settlements, knocking might be preferred.
