Purchase Remote Modules + Delivery

Can't tell you how many times I've been in this position.

I buy a new ship and take it into Outfitting. I start kitting her out only to find the local station does not have a chaff launcher, or KWS, or 4C Bi-weaves, or 6A thrusters, or whatever. Then I need to go to eddb.io and find where all the pieces parts are. Then it's off into the black, picking up parts hither and yon.

We can transfer modules we own, so why can't we buy needed modules from remote stations and have them delivered. Would cost the same (in money and time) as an owned module transfer + the purchase cost + a surcharge for the service, say 5% or 10%. Then I can just wait until the parts are delivered into my stored modules and mount them on the ship. While waiting, I can either do missions or just hang around reading Galnet. I should be able to get most parts within 20-25 minutes unless I'm in Colonia or one of the deep space transit stations to the core.

It's a simple in-game solution that reduces reliance on external info sources and speeds up kitting out a ship.

Yup, that's the frustrating thing when buying a ship... I hate it when I have to go and buy one, and then scrounge for a jump drive that can get me to the next system!

We're in a fictional universe where FTL travel is commonplace, yet Amazon.com is unfathomable.

I go to Shinrata for all my new ships. It's cheaper at LYR systems, but everything is in one place. Of course, this requires Elite status and still leaves the pointless hassle of having to travel to Jameson Memorial, buy your ship, travel back to where you want to use said ship, and have it shippped over.

Isn't this just a complicated, expensive and time-consuming way of having all systems (or at least, all systems with shipyards) sell all modules?

Exactly, might as well stock everything everywhere, and add a premium to the price (which it seems lots of people wouldn't care about anyway).
I find having to shop around is part of the charm of not shopping in shinarata-whatever Founder's.
But in reality 2 stops is all it's ever taken me to get outfitted in the yi-15%-off-space.

This.

Same applies to the idea of mat's-trading too IMO.

If you're going to do that, you might as well just dumb the whole thing down rather than making it dumb while attempting to maintain the facade of complexity.

Personally, I'd say ED needs MORE complexity, not less.
The only thing is, it needs to have that complexity provided in ways that create interesting, entertaining gameplay rather than grind.
As far as such things go, I think having to locate modules for purchase is a fairly reasonable game-mechanic.

How about this:
You get friendly at least with the controlling faction of a station and then you can remotely buy stuff. That way you are intrested in keeping them in control as well... Or be friendly with everyone there.

It's the same as market prices, you are not supposed to have the data out of system. Elite lore.
How can you order something when you don't know it's there?

Anyway, sourcing and collecting modules is part of the game, like sourcing commodities for trade or fetch missions. Having everything available everywhere would be pretty pointless.

I do find it a bit tedious at times, but still have to agree here.
Though with all the external tools, it's become rather painless. Much better than it was early on when I was still a noob and no knowledge of all the external tools and databases, and went blindly looking around... "what? only 5B thrusters again?? aaarrrggghhhhh!!!" :p

Plus, this would sort of invalidate one of the perks of reaching elite status.

Mail order shops are soooo 21st century. In the 34th century this no longer exists, you need to drive down to the shop and pick it up yourself now.
