Purchasing Odyssey

I was looking forward to purchasing Odyssey when announced but decided not to after the less than stellar reviews (being kind) . Thought I would drop in and see what the latest buzz was. It would appear that it is still bug ridden and the play-ability is still questionable.

I think the most troubling issue is the devs not answering issues that are brought up in the forums. People have spent their money on the product but customer support seems to be non-existent and that's a shame.

Do you know what happens when you ignore your customers? They go away - and they take their money with them.

Support requests are for providing customer support, not forum posts. I don't think I have ever been on a game forum were customer support requests were dealt with on the public forums, that's bizarre!

Not to mention a lot of issues only exist in the poster's imaginations....

I have had a couple of minor issues in ED, surprisingly they were fixed very quickly when I used the correct support process and didn't post randomly on the forums, forums are useful for a number of things, player groups organising, player events, player driven projects, and of course for venting, this is suspect is what the OP sees as support requests, oh well!

There are plenty of small bugs, but only a couple of game-breaking stuff. (Barnacle forest still causing the game to crash for example). A few of the bad ones were fixed in the last patch - the AX progress bars not filling up and invisible interceptors for example.

The small bugs can get annoying when you happen to come across more than 2-3 in a single game session, but that doesn't happen very often. Admittedly, there are a lot of bugs that were in the game for years now. But Odyssey is perfectly playable now and like I said, the small bugs are more of an annoyance than game-breaking.

I wish Frontier focused more on fixing the bugs, but I guess it is what it is.

Because the correct way to report bugs is the issue tracker. Granted it is a terrible tool in my opinion, but you can see that the bugs that players report ARE actually getting fixed. Just not in a quantitity that a lot of us would probably want. It's a shame. But saying that

Very untrue. Frontier actually has one of the best support teams I've ever interacted with and I've been playing video games since the 80s.

Bugs: yes, but no more so than the rest of the game.
Playability: it's more Elite Dangerous, but on foot.
Performance: if you can play Horizons Live at acceptable performance then Odyssey should be at least tolerable. Treat the listed "recommended" spec as actually being the "minimum"

If you're enjoying playing ED without it, then pick it up next time there's a good sale for a bit of extra variety. If you're not enjoying playing ED, then Odyssey won't fix that, don't bother getting it.

Odyssey is perfectly playable for me (on an AMD RX 6600 running Linux), and quite fun.
I've sometimes seen some low frame rate areas but for the most part I have no problems.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Perhaps I'll give it a go.
Note that VR does not really work. Odyssey runs in a 2D projection in VR and the last time I tried it, the 3D parts were too slow to be useable on my Quest 2.
So if you use VR you should probably not expect that to work with Odyssey.
