Pure respect for combat Elites

I've been knocking down skittles in RES sites for three days now. Instead of a third through Master, I'm now a half.
Compared to this, trading is a doddle, a breeze. A dainty skip to Elite.
Compared to this, exploration seems dangerously exciting. Elite is but a trip away.

Combat, though, come on. Pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew reload pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew pew

I don't know how you lot do it. Massive respec' fam

I just reached Deadly recently, been going at a nice comfortable pace. Gonna be awhile before I Elite in combat but hey im in nooooo rush.

I'm not Elite anything....you guys and your fancy Elite title's! My attitude is "I'm gonna do what I want, and I'll get Elite when I get it." Unfortunately I wanna smuggle! Here's hoping 1.6 makes it worthwhile again, right now I get nothin but Pennyless & Elite rank missions. One I can't take, the other I'm too snobish to take. :p

Sitting on ~30% of Master. To try and get to Elite as soon as possible would be a crazy grind. I'm just doing it, like everything else, at my own pace.

Well I appreciate it. Took quite a while to get here. Remember, an Elite Sidewinder is worth as much (percentage wise,) as a an Elite Corvette. Good luck!

Some ships make combat really easy. My Vulture could net me a couple mil an hour, as long as the RES' I was in was even moderately populated. And the Vulture makes combat almost too easy.

This is going to change in 1.6.. So I've read.

We, or I at least, do not concentrate on the rank grinding.
One day it just happened and I was Elite.
I am still nowhere near Elite at trading or exploration.
I will get there eventually.
Could be within a year, could take me three, I have no idea. It happens when it happens.

Becoming Elite at combat with the improved AI has more meaning then when I got there :).
Combat has become much more fun and dangerous.
Also imagine CMDRs being Expert or Competent while doing a lot of PvP combat.
A chap like me wouldn't stand a chance I think. The meaning of the rank of Elite is very relative.

Keep in mind 2.1 on PC is currently only in Beta, so things are bound to change by the time they get to us and who knows how different things like AI behavior and weapon balance will be by then.

Just remember, once you get to Deadly, you have to get as many kills as you've gotten to reach deadly again in order to reach Elite. Killing a pilot any less than Deadly is basically a waste of time it contributes so little towards progress. I nearly lost my damned mind.

Yes, if you're trying to get to Elite in Combat, this table on the wiki is very useful in figuring out what each enemy ship is worth per their own Combat rank.

Have you tried Powerplay, Sir?

Undermining pew pew style sure does make popping NPC's much more meaningful :D

Plus it's quite nice to earn a bit of a wage from someone each week and a nice plus a special upgrade always helps (Prismatic Shields in my case) :D

According to people...not really. A lot more running away it seems.

By the time the new stuff gets to the X-Box they won't be running away that much anymore.
Sarah Jane Avery (the AI programmer) already announced that she will tweak the AI to display more varied behavior when it loses shields.
