Pure Trading ships (builds and escape tactics)

To the OP: are you nuts? How can you dare to come here and suggest this fittings which they cut in to the profits of traders? The only accepted fittings of the trading community are the shieldless max cargo fits, and if something go wrong with their greed, the solution it's not to learn how to run effectively, but go to forums and beg FD all day long to change the game (and in the process spoil the game for other players) because they can't adapt.
Plus one from me, but i doubt any trader will even try your ideas.

Great post! I don't even know where the negative opinions towards the Type 6 even came from. The day 2.1 went live I headed to 63 G. Capricorni in my T-6 to start working on the Hangover CG. Did that for the whole week except for taking a (short?) break to make the 1000ly round trip to pick up Meta Alloy and deliver to Farseer Inc. and return to the CG. Despite the crazy weapons on the NPCs, and conservative guess of at least 100 interdictions, I lost my ship only once. Love my T-6!

My build is mostly the same as yours minus the military grade composite and using a 0A shield booster in place of the heat sink. I experimented using a 5C shield generator sacrificing some cargo space but didn't see any improvement, so I went back to 4A shields.

Great post - definitely needs to be stickied somewhere!

I will try out the T7 build when I get a chance....
I flew a T6 for quite a while very early on, but I flew a little trade loop right on the edge of the bubble and rarely came across any pirates at all..

Updated the OP with demonstration videos by CMDR Henri, showing exactly how OP mines can be vs NPCs. Anwer: extremely OP... ah well. I guess this is balanced in a way. Though I may consider outfitting my FDL with mines too... seems to work better than Torpedoes !!!

You can get Reverberating Cascade on them as well.

Okay thinking about this thread has me feeling all bold and heroic and I have decided to sell my Cobra III and jump to my old favorite the T6 that I normally wait a bit for. Did a search but didn't find an answer for this mine question.

To use mines do I need to target the enemy ship first that is chasing me then release or can I just dump them in my wake and they do their job all on their own?

Will have to try!! Just got Lyz Ryder. I'm terrible at farming mats though :)

Pretty sure it's just: head straight away, and dump, but target them just to be sure

All trade ships are viable with a sensible ( not greedy ) build.

But the T7 is still a bit of a death trap, it's reputation is well deserved.

Great advice. I personally stay away from the T-series as much as I can not because they are bad at doing what they do - hauling lots of cheap stuff to somewhere else where it's expensive - because they are not bad at it at all, they are great at it. Neither is it because they can't survive an attack, your post proves that they can pretty conclusively. It's that they are flippin' SAUNAS. The T7 is the worst, so much as fart in the cockpit and you'll do some heat damage! The T6 isn't quite so bad, you have to at least look at it funny as well. The T9 is tolerable, it dissipates heat at least as well as a sidey...
