Purge abandoned player factions

There are a lot of player factions that are abandoned. This is obvious, because they are in 1 system (their home), they don't own any stations, and they are at the bottom of the influence pool.

I know purging them would be difficult, because how can you truly know that the faction is abandoned and nobody wants it? Perhaps Fdev has contact information for the player group, or can see if these player's haven't logged in in a while. Also, what if the player group returns, and sees that their faction is missing? It could be re-instated, but it may end up in another location. But on the other hand, removing all these dead player factions would free up plenty of space in systems, so it may become easier to find a place to put them.

Regardless, these abandoned factions are cluttering up systems, and it would be nice to have them removed so there is more room to expand, as well as more room for new player factions to have the system of their choosing.

Thoughts? Possible?

Oh, oh! I have a FANTASTIC idea!

And FDev already agrees, too!

Player Made Factions Require Upkeep!

Makes sense, right? I mean, there are administrators and staff running all of those stations! Squadrons should be required to pay a tithe/stipend to their chosen PMF in order to support its standard operations.

When the PMF goes into debt (because of inactivity), it goes into "Administration" for a period where it cannot partake in the BGS at all and loses standing quickly. At the end of the period (a few weeks), the PMF then 'collapses' and is erased from the game. It can then be reclaimed (or remade) by anyone that wishes to do so as normal (but they would be active players, of course).

Boom. Perfect Solution.

Could you give an example (the name) of a system that is blocked from expansion because of an inactive player faction ?
If I understand it correctly it would need 6 Native NPC factions and 1 Native Player faction ?
So that it would have 7 native factions to block any expansions.

I do not doubt that there are such systems, I have just not seen any for myself.

So, as I understand it, every Player Made Faction has to have a home system. So taking the Hutton Truckers as an example, their home system is Alpha Centauri, where Hutton orbital is located.
So, if (for the purposes of this example) they were an abandoned faction, all the systems they expanded in, they would lose control of and drop out of, except for Alpha Centauri, because it's their home system. They might lose control of their home system, but would always have a presence there. This would allow players for that faction to come back and start expanding again. It wouldn't hurt anyone, or the game, to have PMF's at least retain a presence in their home system.

You're wrong on two fronts.

First, take away the Trucker's expansions and you'll have Vingetun spilling his pint on you IRL.
Certainly don't turn up at LaveCon if Lockdown ever ends.

Second - there are a huge number of PMFs that don't even rule their home system.
Sometimes they just chose badly (EG Eclipsis); but mostly they couldn't get it together enough to take over just one.
And here's the problem - You can't have a new PMF Home in another PMF's Home System.
There's a bunch of useful systems that are blocked by this.

The thing I hate personally is when you support an NPC faction and develop it, and then some PMF claims their home system or one of their hard earned expansions.

Do you want to add a new faction into a system that already has a player-added faction in it?

Yes, that's exactly how it works.

I just want to reply ...
1. I haven't set up a PMF, so I can only go by how I understand the game to work. If I am wrong, then I am wrong.
2. Vingtetun and I are actually cool with each other. I even PM'd him to let him know I'd made the above post and no offence was intended. He's cool with it.
3. The only PMF's home system I know of is Hutton Trucker's
4. It was only an example.
5. I am sure I am welcome back at Lavecon, provided I behave myself, and if there was a problem there, that's between me and Allen & Karen.
6. ...
Yes, that's exactly how it works.
