Putting those body kits and weapon colors to good use.

FD you have all these nice things that you could use for NPCs to help liven up the galaxy. It would be nice of you to do so.

A great example would be using the weapon color modules for their respective navy and police ships.

Federation = Red
Empire = Blue
Alliance = Green
Independent = ???

You could also pick a body kit variant for each faction and have most of their ships spawn with that kit, while non major faction ships could have random configurations of body kits.

This would add a lot of character to major faction ships as well as make independent ships stand out as well.

I agree with weapon colours, but it's quite obvious that the Empire has to use red. (Also, where are our Tie fighters? *grin* )
.
On body kits, i am not so sure if i like this suggestion. After all, people bought their ship kits to have a unique looking ship. If those kit parts now suddenly are omipresent, the feature of standing out is significally reduced.
.
If anything, it would thus not make sense to use the already existing ship kits on NPC ships, but rather also create power based ship kits. The empire one might add additional small pylons, the federation one could add more edges and corners to ships and the alliance version might... hmm... good question. :D
.
These kits, named for the power, would then make sense to be used both by NPC ships and being sold in the item store, for people who want to express their loyality to one power. As those kits would probably only contain three pieces each, they would be quicker, easier and cheaper to produce and could thus be sold for a lower price in the online store.
.
I think such power based kits would sell well while not breaking the promise of "my own custom ship" the current kits give.

Great idea about weapon colours. Would add an extra layer of space war to a scene and make it easier to see who is who in a busy fight.

Great idea.
Especially the weapon colors. Always nice to have more visual queues as to who's who.
Maybe not the ship kits so much, as people like that to make their ships look unique. Maybe specific paint jobs for each faction?

Green is Empire. Wrong space sim. :(

I like this idea

Add to it to use the liveries for the Naval Vessels
Charcoal for the Federation
Ice for the Empire

Alliance and Independent faction navies drawing one of the others based on Government type maybe

Empire is defiantly blue, their capital ships have been using blue lasers for forever.

Not even up for debate! Empire=Blue.

And, I think the OP is a great idea!

As for the weapons fire concern, there a 7 colors to chose from, this only requires 3 of them.

Pretty sure the I-Fighter is a TIE Fighter.... Not just by the rhyming nickname, but also if we look at it from their functions, both are extremely fast and agile, reletively hard hitting fighters that have very little defence, and are built in a horizontal focused rather than vertical or forward design.
