Putting your noggin in game.

Years ago I remember playing rainbow 6 Vegas on the Xbox. It allowed us to take a full 360 degree render of our head using the camera and the likeness was uncanny.
Other games allowed this but they are rare (one of the tiger woods game)

It boggles me in the modern era of video games this is not a more common feature, I am just wondering if frontier ever considered allowing it and if not why not?.

Even if not photo realistic it would be nice to get as good an approximation as the creator can allow

It's really such a niche feature, and compared to the coding time/effort required to add this feature - there's just so little payoff. It will make 2% of the player base dance with joy, while the other 98% wonder why the code team bothered in the first place.

Would be cool but we're already having doom talk about bandwidth and storage problems with custom decals...
im for it as with custom decals but I doubt it..

I just want to be able to get out of my seat and walk around my ship. The fact that something so seemingly simple is apparently so difficult to implement is discouraging. I would've thought that by the 2010s, engines would be a bit more robust and easier to work with by now. It really puts things into perspective and makes me appreciate what Star Citizen is attempting.

Get a Vive. You can do it, then realize it's a lot more fun to sit back down and fly your damn spaceship. SC meanwhile hopelessly blundered VR support and is years behind if not permanently screwed in that department due to VR-unfriendly design decisions. It really puts things in perspective and makes me appreciate what Elite Dangerous attempted and succeeded at.

I kid, but they'll implement walking around ships and stations soon enough: and have laid the groundwork for a pretty solid implementation. Room scale VR and redirected walking tricks perhaps?

Should make for some fun sim pit pics! And tales of commanders tumbling down stairs.

On the character model front, the commander creator is going to make for some seriously disturbing mugs!

It can be done relatively easily - Cobra has already been used for GTA and first person style games.

Personally, I think the reason walking around hasn't been implemented yet is more concerned with there being a reason to do so other than the "ain't it cool?" factor.

Look at Second Life and the horrendous pop-in you get with that. Granted, decals require less bandwidth than downloading a whole mesh and texture but yeah. In ten years maybe the P2P bandwidth could be guaranteed to be there.
