PvBSR build advice, please.

Hi.

First up, BSR means "brave Sir Robin".

Been playing in Mobius but have decided to dip my toe into open waters. I have an Icourier that's purely built for speed that I'll be flying.

I have no interest in pvp and fully intend to run from anything and everything I see. Sneeze and I'm gone. Atm, Hull (lightweight) and shields (3c bi-weave, fast charge) are configured for PvE, so g5 thermal resist. What's best for an open environment? I was thinking reinforced. I don't want to add weight, cos speed (820 boost) is my main aim. Also, should I keep the point defence or bin it?

All suggestions readily accepted.

Cheers.

I use a Courier for NPC Bounty Hunting, it has also been interdicted by a Frag Mamba (PvP player) and survived to run away...

Heavier than yours, but with more utility - still fast enough to outrun the majority of combat builds.
Lovely little ships to fly... Imperial Eagle makes another 'odd' but fast ship too.

Biweave + resist + speed should keep you pretty safe - my Krait Phantom is both slower and a much bigger target than your Courier, and gets away fine with that sort of build. Also, because the Courier has a ridiculously good shield intrinsic, your Courier probably actually has slightly more shields than my Krait...

Thermal resist shield + 2 resist boosters big weakness is plasma accelerators - but a Courier should just be able to dodge those long enough to escape by not flying in a straight line. With 4 pips to sys you should have about 1000 MJ of absolute shielding, and at least twice that for the other damage types, which is plenty if you're not taking continuous fire.

Point defence: probably not needed, since you can boost faster than a missile flies, and your shields should be staying up anyway. Chaff or heat sink will do more good against more attack types.

What's good? Anything that will keep you safe long enough to hi-wake ;) I'd go paranoid here, all depends where you operate as a pilot. Nice to have a proper shielding in cenral part or more popular parts of the bubble, but if you operate in the outskirts I'd worry to much, anything will do. 2A reinforced + 2 HD shield boosters should give you 600-700MJ add the Courier speed , a chaff launcher and a point defence and you're safe.

Shield boosters add weight. Weight means less speed. Could drop the PD for one and not lose too much. All good advice. Cheers.

Hmm. Swapping to a stripped g5 3a enhanced low power prismatic still gives me 828 boost. Just over a minute recharge, but I'll be gone by then.

Thoughts?

If you have enough speed, you just need enough shield to survive the initial few shots that might graze you as you boost away.

I've tried pirating I-Couriers, and actually, other speedy ships, and you don't have to worry about me at least.

I see that speed, and just congratulate the commander, and leave them alone.

My icourier is a sturdy little blighter and built kinda like yours , its seen pvp , pve an all manner in between.

Biweave , 2shield boosters (resistance) , 2 chaff and 4 x class 1 hull reinforcement (lightweight).

She can tank a little but her strength lies in being able to get out of a sticky spot with 1 - 2 boosts ... it will go around 800m/s and anything that can keep up with that it can fight and possibly win.

Edit .. speed is only a concern if you cant outrun the bigger players like FDL etc .. anything over 750 is survivable with some manuevering and again if theres anything that can outrun you then its built of tinfoil and should be drawn away from the crowd and despatched.

I would be careful of longrange phase builds in a light courier with no hull protection though , thats why i usually stick in a few undersized HRP's modded for lightweight.

If interdicted i usually drop throttle to submit , turn 180 into my aggressor and boost boost boost ... if its a light fast ship then throw in a few corkscrews and drop a chaff (the size of the icourier makes it especially hard to hit) , then its simply a matter of waiting out the FSD startup and jump to safety.

Ok.

Haven't got the prismatics yet, but looking at going with this build. Running bi-weaves for now.

I went for thermal on the boosters because a) that value looked low and b) I'm going to have more trouble with NPCs than CMDRs and they go mostly with lasers.

I only get 2 jumps before I need to scoop, but it's only a short range build, so I doubt it'll be a problem.

Anything that can keep up and hit me deserves to kill me ;)

Thoughts?

I use heatsinks rather than shields. Shields are basic biweaves. After I interdict the bad guy, I drop a heatsink and boost back into super cruise. They can never target me or get close enough to land a shot.

how about this
about the same absolute shield value, but better resists at the same weight

This way you have free the size 3 slots and you can do some shuffling - but if you load the build more than it is now, you might get better results with drive distributors instead of drag drives

Edit: you can even use a full tank if you switch drag drives to drive distributors

I'd switch down to a class 2 shield and put a class 3 Guardian FSD Booster...then res augmented boosters. More jump range, 20m/s sec faster and better shield strength:
A super fast ship is not required to escape from being ganked….you could easily drop down to 2A thrusters for extra jump range and still have a boost speed above 600m/s

Edit: Flying in a straight line away from an attacker is generally considered to be bad.
Trick is to fly circles around them avoiding their shots and making it hard for them to hit you while your FSD charges...once charged just align with the destination.
…but like everything in ED there are many ways to skin a cat :)

Fast is good but over 800 is excessive, youre only hurting your flexibility at that speed.

Seldom little is going to keep up at 700 apart from other couriers and they arent all that commonly gankboats.
