PVE areas

My buddy an I are very interested in buying a copy. But we are wanting
to know if this is another EVE where PVP runs crazy everywhere.
Or if PVE'rs can enjoy the game without having to worry about being ganked
while you learn the game and try to enjoy the content it has to offer.

Thanks for any intel.

Like in EVE both PvE and PvP have consequences, this will be balanced by what I know to not have quite as many loopholes as the policing systems in EVE but by what i've seen if you are an idiot flying around with gold in your cargo and it is worth more than the ship required to get it then expect the same outcome as in EVE and also there is no galaxy wide police just like in EVE, there are zones though where you are virtually safe if you are smart about it (see the gold example above).

You can form a private group together whilst you learn the ropes once the grouping mechanics are introduced in standard beta, and then transfer to the "real world" by turning it off when you feel up to speed, either with that character or by starting a new one.

The small downside of private groups is that you won't encounter other players at all, only NPCs, so it isn't exactly the same as being on a PvE server with other players. However the players will be spread out so much in this game, and the great majority of encounters will be with NPCs anyway.

The bigger downside is that you rob yourself of the chance to ever encounter possible new friends through gameplay.

The basic plan seems to be roughly as follows;

You can play in the following modes;

All group - PVP/PVE
Ironman group - PVP/PVE - if you character gets killed you have to re-start or take it to the All group above
Solo online "group" - your own solo group that interacts with the online universe and therefore PVE
Solo offline group - your own solo group that is completely offline - again PVE

Then you have private groups online - where you will only see people in your private group.

Lastly there is a plan to have a transponder option where if you switch it on you will see instantly which other ships are player controlled (and they will see you) - or transpnder off where you won't immediately know an AI from a player controlled ship.

ETA - should add that the only thing in at the moment is the All group. Private/solo groups are coming on the 29th July. Not sure when Ironman, offline and transponder are coming...
