PvE: Do you even use chaff anymore? Especially in CZs

Seeing how everything in CZs seems to use Rail Guns/Plasma Accelerators/Missiles, has there been any point where you felt your chaff being useful when it actually mattered? (within the context of the latest patches)

Small ships included, because I'm about to ditch those damn (now) useless things and attempt to get full shield boosters instead after yet again getting pummelled by rail gunning ships that tunnel vision on your ship's buttocks harder than a salty LoL player. [knocked out]

I generally install another shield booster rather than chaff in all my ships, but don't run any small ships at moment bc of lugging around mandatory engineering commodities (smallest is Asp).

Long as you have the power, I'd prefer booster over chaff. I do concede though that if NPCs were more dangerous I might go back to using chaff. When 2.1 launched and NPCs had both the 'unintended' weapons bug and were buffed considerably more than now, I was popping chaff like crazy because even just a few hits saved could make the difference between life and death

As it stands now, the average skill differential between the avg player and avg NPC is large enough that you can forego chaff imo entirely and use the utility slot for booster, ECM, or PD as you see fit.

nope. Better off with another booster, a heatsink or even ECM

chaff is useless on big ships anyway. On fighters it's decent

This is pretty much my experience in CZs and PP zones. Too the point that I did ditch the chaff launchers for more point defence and shield boosters.

Chaff seems to often be a waste of a button push due to the reasons you mention. But I equip a couple of them anyway. Along with point defense. Avoiding being inside the enemy's firing arc is a better tactic than chaff :)

I had dual caffs before 2.1 and it was really good but then they nerfed the caffs and introduced resistance increased shield Booste (engineers). Although they liftet the nerf a bit it has become entierly a wast to equipe your ships with caffs and if you add your cz experience even more so. I replaced them all with shield Boosters.

Chaff is priority 2 for me to a Point defense laser.

There are a number of times - particularly in CZ. Only run out once, so Chaff is not as important as it used to be. Still important enough for me at the moment.

Still use them. Still have their purpose in RES sites where not everybody is equipped with rails. I fly small fighters and against iClippers and Pythons and Anacondas they are effective. I can usually dodge plasmas.

Sure, not everything is using fixed weapons, against stuff like condas with turrets its very useful. Double Chaff on the Vulture saved my behind a couple times when my shields where already low and I couldn't say no to attacking a Conda :D

Yep. 4000MJ shields means no need for chaff. Keep the slot for a heatsink (SCB) or a shield booster.

I like it on fighters. On the bigger ships, I just tend to go for heatsinks and shield boosters. I'm actually rather surprised about the number of people stating they use point defenses - I'd get it on an armour-tank, but who flies them these days?

PD is good for keeping those shields up when flying the TradeConda and facing an endless barrage of missiles/torps etc. - and Chaff is nice to have too, at least some of NPC turret/gimbal fire misses.

Hmm - from my experience they still do next to no damage to shields - better to have another SCB imho. I only considered fitting one because missiles tend to block my vision when they explode in my face which can be a bit distracting.

I'd rather fit chaff and will most likely keep using it on the smaller ships.

I've just never really gotten into the habit of using them. I use KWS, FSS, HS and Boosters. Never used PD, ECM or Chaff. Never really used SCBs either. I equip any or all of them at different times thinking they might come in handy but I never remember they're there. I have keybinds and everything. Probably would've saved me a few times in the past.

They used to be extremely useful even against NPCs prior to 2.0. Now they seem to be completely useless in CZs where everything uses fixed weapons and rails/PAs/missiles.

Not worth the trouble for the 1-2 turrets that a 'conda/corvette/cutter might have by the looks of it.

Heck, I've had Pythons use PAs in CZs. Damn Pythons!

It's a pity because I always liked flying smaller ships. The big 3 might be able to withstand a salvo of rails for a while, but the tunnel visioning the NPCs have is some real punishment on smaller boats.

This is why I prefer winning wars by establishing a margin beforehand instead of actually fighting them...CZs are really annoying for a lone pilot.
