PvE Missions in a Viper Mk3

Gents,

The fight below is soloing the wing pirate assassination mission with a viper mk3.
It is quite long (26 minutes) and full of mistakes, the reason for which I posted it.

Here is the build:
Nice one - I haven't even watched the video yet but I too was hoping to build something for 'up close' combat.
My first quick impression of your build is that you're very close to the weight limit for advanced thrusters and that PA / SR Rails combination must be very heavy on the PD, so not exactly a beginner's build, and maybe tricky for a scrub like me.
That's why I was wondering if medium frags small plus advanced dunbfires could be a good alternative.

I agree. It kind of works in this scenario because mirrored armor can take a lot of beating with double chaff when shields are down, and 1C biweave with low draw recharges with 1-2 pips to sys. If I had better aim and pip management, HD lightweight armor and class 1 thermal and kinetic hrps could work in pve and even a class 2 biweave with low draw.

My apologies, I will be reposting it momentarily, I accidentally used my account with my real name.
Lmao, I actually thought it was just me being blind or stupid to be unable to find the link. :)

BTW I found a wing assassination kill among my older videos. The shieldless V4 with the funny hull is apparently quicker to kill these kind of NPCs, it's just 6 minutes. :)

(Most probably someone who is more experienced with the V4 than me could have done it quicker, but I've only flown it a couple of times and I only had regular efficient (non-TC) PAs and LR rails on it.)

Nice flying, I don't have that kind of TOT, I overshoot/joust .

I need to cut out few seconds from my vid for privacy, any suggestions for a free and easy to use video editor ?

For an NPC, FA off and FA on are the same thing because the ship is controlled by AI. The AI controls each individual thruster to do what it wants.

Makes sense, though I assume it must be some sort of bug that allows an AI-controlled ship to fly backwards at excessive speed. I mean, I don't have an issue with them performing a legit manoeuvre within the limits of a ship's (Engineered) capabilities. However, when a ship can be seen by two players travelling backwards at such speeds, something is wrong. I will say though, I see this issue far less than I used to.

To be clear, we've observed ships boosting in a direction, flipping over while maintaining that vector, then appearing to go even faster than before but in reverse. It's weird, though very rare for me now.

Any comments are appreciated.

Your video is strangely immersive 😂 You know, low fps, the abundance of space dust add up to realism.

Shooting precision is good for the moment. A bit of work on time on target wouldn’t go amiss. It’s just a matter of having an easy position to shoot from. And that gets difficult once fighting ships break apart and create distance. Gets even more difficult with having to line up plasma shots. The goal is to maintain proximity, so that more easy aiming opportunities are created. To do that you must, just before enemy ship closes in on you, change vector to your target’s vector and boost right as he passes you. You’ll end up near him on every pass. It’s more of a feeling thing (when exactly to boost) and becomes second nature in time. Sometime you do that technique in your own video, btw. Do it more often. Learn to “cycle it”. Pick weapons to complement that flying style. As more time on target becomes available, the more damage you can bring, so you can do away with weaker, but more consistent weapons.

I'm sorry for the quality, this was my first ever upload and I was not sure if there was a limit. Next uploads will be better.

Thank you for the comment, it is very useful and gives me a direction to continue.

For anyone adventurous enough to take a peek, you can skip to the last minute.

Again, I appreciate your insightful comments, just being mindful of boost timing immediately started to drop my TTK to 13 then 9 minutes.

My best so far is 7:33 below:

To all the cmdrs out there who are interested in FAOFF but feel (like I did) it is an impossibly tall mountain to climb, let me tell you if I could learn it so can you.
I am not a gamer, not particularly dexterous, close to 50. Once I reached my limit flying FAON 3-4 years ago (and I wasn't half the pilot Morbad is based on his vids), I decided to learn the basics in a fun way. That slowly opened up the game and in 3-4 years this is how far I got. I know many did it in fraction of the time, kudos to them. Flying exclusively FAOFF is a very liberating experience that I feel every dedicated ED cmdr should experience. Maybe the path I took could be helpful to you, let me know if you are interested.

Cheers
