PVP Arena fights

I know the people who enjoy PVP understandably want everything balanced, but this puts limits on the game for everyone else and ties up FD resources as they try to make everything "fair" in some way.

My suggestions is that maybe we could have some kind of aranged arena fights with identical ships to really test the skill of the pilot. You pay a fee to enter, you are given a special ship and there is a tier of play offs with big prizes for the winners.

This way PVP people get fair, balanced combat and the rest of the game is free to be more varied. I don't want the whole game to be limited by "balances".

Fees and 'special ships' would be too difficult to arrange for a small number of players.

The easiest way is to arrange something like this is to bring a stock ship to a particular place and have at it. There is nothing stopping such a thing being done, as is.

True, people could already arrange it themselves, but there's no real mechanism as yet for offering any kind of reward or prize.

Everyone agrees to buy a ton of something expensive. Abandon the canisters. Trader ship scoops it up. At the end of the match, trader ship gives the cargo to the winner.

Rack up some NPC bounties to an agreed amount. When you zap someone, the bounty is yours.

This requires work from the Devs, which is not something they'd give a high priority to, I feel.

I always had the idea that if I wanted to get serioous about "Pew Pew", I would head of to one of the war zones and get my fill.....

But now everywhere is a warzone, I am not sure I would survive the trip to get to a warzone......lol...........

Maybe PvPers feel the same way and thats why they want to attack people in un-escapeable interdictions........

Balancing doesn't limit the game, it makes it far more varied because no ship becomes the "best" ship the "end game ship" there should never be a ship like that in a game such as this so that regardless what you fly skill of the pilot wins in the end.

You should never feel as though you should fly one specific ship because if you don't you are handicapping yourself.

Its just like a real life, isnt it? If you wont organize a fight and give rewards yourself, there is no trmphets and cash falling from the sky, every time you hit someone in the face, is there?

I think its brilliant, that devs dont give you limited options how to play and organize. They just give you possibility to do it yourself.

I think an arena is a great idea - it could be a virtual arena/competition with players docked in stations able to log into a "VR" arena whereby they would engage in combat with an opponent in an equal ship, and move up or down a ladder system. Players could be matched against the player closest to them on the ladder who is also queued for the arena.

Perhaps players could be given a fixed budget and could choose the ship/loadout they want before the fight or alternatively a ship and loadout could be chosen at random and given to each player.

Have each player "bid" a wager with a fixed minimum, combat proceeds for the lower amount wagered and the winnings count towards "bounty" accrued (so that the winnings count towards combat rank.) Winner takes all - one player loses the wager the other wins both stakes.

Could have random locations as well - asteroid fields, open space, near a star, minefield, inside a large station?

There could be a championship period with the leaders posted on galnet.

I don't follow that analogy at all, there's big prizes for organised boxing matches. There's no prizes for a 6 foot tall 18 year old lad spontaneously punching an 82 year old nun in the face though, you're right about that.

We just don't have the infrastructure to properly arrange things yet though. All we can do is arrange the equivalent of a punch up in the local park by using external web sites.

So do it. Get featured on GalNet news like others are doing. Post your results, show FD that it's fun and interesting enough to add to the game.
