PVP Beacon- way to stop griefinig?

Suggestion: We have a beacon that we can turn on or off (like the nav lines) that will identify the ship as a Valid PVP target or not (off).

This could be used in conjunction with the kill warrant scanner. Scan a ship and a 'valid target' prompt shows up, or some such wording. If the beacon is off and Ship is scanned then the reverse 'not valid' shows.

If the PVPer decides to grief a 'not valid' target, then the whole crime and punishment, wrath of god or whatever should apply. Likewise if the scanner (Pirate?) has his set to 'off' and attacks an innocent 'not valid' target, same punishments apply.

This could be easily programmed (I hope Devs?) and put in for our choice to use.

Simple idea?

I like this idea but why not (if you dont want to PvP) just go into a different mode completely

If you want to be alone we could call it solo, if you want play with invited guests - call it private (this could be expanded to into a massive private club) and if you want a anything goes - call it open

The mechanism is already basically [1] in place with the "report crimes" system. If you shoot at me, you will not gain a bounty even in controlled space, and the police will not intervene.

In 2.4 you'll get a notification if someone changes their report crimes setting while in the instance with you ... but still won't be able to tell what it is without experiment otherwise.

Lots of people - especially PvPers - have asked to be able to tell what someone's "report crimes" setting is on scan. Hopefully Frontier will implement that as well at some point - it could be as little as making their legal status show as "Lawless" instead of "Clean" even in controlled space.

[1] It's not completely the same - there are PvE uses for turning reporting off - but close enough not to need a separate one, I think.

Counter suggestion: All the PvPers should make a PG called, I dunno, Suibom. Only true PvP Lords are invited to this esteemed gathering and you won't have to worry about ever accidently hitting someone who isn't a true PvP Lord. ;)
