PvP PvP Challenger Build Help

Title says it all. Looking for some advice on a good Challenger build. I have not yet dabbled in any PvP but I'm looking to get into it. Maybe do some power play later on down the road.

Here is my current build:
https://coriolis.io/outfit/alliance...hBGA2HogKYEMDmAbJIYT0A&bn=Warden of the North

Obviously, I still have some more engineering to do, but I figured I would ask before I go much further with that so I don't waste all my resources.

I'm not a fan of my pulse lasers. Too much Jitter. I know that for PvP it's best to use fixed weapons, but I'm still getting used to the aiming so I think I need a little bit of assistance for now. Also, I don't plan on keeping the fuel scoop and the planetary vehicle, it's just until I get everything engineered and ready to fight.

I'm looking to go for that anti-griefer "hero of the people" role, if that helps any.

Do what you guys do best and tell me where I'm wrong! Thanks for the help.

Get bulkheads. Reactive with either a lightweight mod or thermal resist.

6C biweave

Everything else hull reinforcement and a module reinforcement or two.

A life support, A sensors.

Basically agree with the above, but I'd go HD on the reactives and add a thermal HRP, which gives slightly better numbers than thermal reactives plus an HD HRP.
The Challenger is pretty tolerant of mass so lightweight doesn't seem worth it to me.
Also I go D on life support but long range A rated sensors when possible.
The Challenger has a pretty exposed canopy so I suspect that's why that was chosen, ymmv.
You need to get rid of all non-combat essential items too.

You have 2 empty utils!

I use biweaves on mine but if you want to go with the A rated + banks, something more like this is how you should be thinking for PVP builds.
Ran out of power so had to sacrifice the A rated sensors but that's better than getting your PP shot out.

If you spend a lot of time close (Challenger isn't that fast so that's hard) then another med frag might be a better choice.

Too many weapons with different projectile velocities won't work.
Keep it as simple as possible.
Armor and engineer everything you can, otherwise you will die quickly.
That's still going to happen ftr, for a while anyhow.
But at least build so it won't be your ship's fault!

Thanks, guys!

Looks like I have some mining to do to unlock the engineer for Hull Reinforcements... I've put off the grind for so long because my other ships are mostly Shield Tanks.

Wasn't sure if I should go with the biweaves or not since the shields are so weak to begin with but I'll try them out. For the empty utilities, I was debating between putting in 2 shield boosters or making one of them a heat sink. Even with the SCB, it handles the heat really well. I also thought about putting in a Thermal Vent Beam Laser to help manage it a little better. I wasn't sure what it would be like after I put Dirty Drives on it, or should I just go with the Clean Drives?

The thermal vent beam will work in PVE, but not so well in PVP.
You won't get nearly as much time on target unless it's a large, slow ship.
A single bank is kind of weak.
Dirty drives all the way.
edit: If you're concerned about heat the powerplant needs to have a low thermal load; ie no G4-5 OC.
That's another advantage of armored.

The build I linked is a good base to play around with, but if you go to more energy weapons you'll need to make some sacrifices elsewhere and have better pip management.

The idea of biweave shields is fast recovery from broken, especially in a hull tank without SCBs. That means most of the time in the fight, a biweave is gonna be broken and recovering. If you're to use one, be prepared for that.

Hull tanks have a lot more weaknesses than shield tanks. I like piloting the challenger or the chieftain, but I won't recommend using them.

Updated your build OP. Check this out

Screw that build completely and start from scratch. You are a subject to gank and nothing to be feared. My ship's weapons will melt through your lack of resistances in less than 15 seconds.

There is everything wrong with this build, start from 0 and decide in which direction you wanna go and stay there. Combat or exploration or trading, no crossover between these.

does anyone things the build could be realistically achieved

With very few exceptions for the odd bug, if it's on EDSY or Coriolis, and you don't have to plug in any custom variables, it's achievable in-game.

That slot wasted on SC assist should probably be reserved for your resistance HRP or FSD interdictor, as situation dictates.

You can also put a pretty tough plant in a Challenger, but almost every one flying one that can actually move has the same 105 integrity DD5s.

On paper the Challenger is the most effective combat vessel IMO.

Pretty damn good in practice too, it can hang with the scrub mode prismo FDL's that are all the rage and quite easily melt them down to their parts.

x3 PAs, X4 rails = Ez clap FDLs.

Yeah the challenger is cool. It's kinda sad though that hull tanks just get ruined easily. I feel like everything core has to be armoured, every hardpoint has to be sturdy.

My FGS had awesome hull and core strength. I got into one fight with a guy who had one seeker rack, 30 seconds later, every hardpoint was toast. My thrusters - toast. I had 3 MRPs too.
