[PvP]FA/Off Viper v Two Vultures

Strictly speaking I'm not reverse flying like the other pilots do. I am straffing altho not very well cos at the time of the vids I didn't quite know how to adjust vector.
Those that have big ships and experienced do this alot and it requires another tactic to overcome when in a weaker ship. Something I am getting alot better at.
Reverse flying is the 2nd hardest tactic to overcome, imo. There are other tactics that are much harder to overcome but I won't share ofc. :) Very few pilots do it.

What I was doing was holding my position, straffing and pitching/rolling using thrusters to control my position to keep sights on target. A bit like a tennis player that controls the center of the court but with the flair of FA/Off.

I will agree somewhat with Vezdekot, sometimes its like old fashioned duels, walk 10 paces, turn and shoot. 1st one to shoot wins. Rinse/repeat.
Unless, it is a FAOFF throw-down. I had a great time fighting against you, great flying man we shall meet again.

You're holding position relative to the other ship. You must keep moving in space (more or less in the blue zone) otherwise the pitch and yaw rates go down. It would be interesting to have an external view of such a fight. A print out of position and velocity vector would be even better but afaik Elite can't provide that. I wouldn't be surprised if the track of the ship would resemble an irregular zig-zag. A bit like a squid followed by a shark. They jet to the left and right while blowing ink in the face of their attacker. As long as the shark gives chase it makes itself vulnerable to a mouth full of ink.

Likewise, I enjoyed.
You taught me a few things.
I had to re-bind a couple keys after that 2nd sparring session. :)
A good FA/Off pilot is very interesting and entertaining to fight.

I'll upload some vids so you can see from my pov what it was like.

This^^.

Altho at the time I wasn't doing it on purpose, more by accident and I was fighting with the thrusters to stop myself drifting off to far.
Now, I can control where I travel alot better, so alot of pilots want to reverse fly but I don't allow them which makes it look like they are engaging in a turning battle but I'm really forcing them to do that.

Yes, I agree. But in defence of Elite it must be said that it is quite difficult to get true dogfights in space because the absence of Earth's gravity renders 80% of basic fighter manoeuvres useless. Frontier tried to compensate by making turn rate dependent on speed (blue zone = corner speed), but there is no equivalent of stall speed in Elite and that opens the door to the extremely defensive flying-backwards tactic (basically flying like a tail gunner). In Elite 1v1 there is no real counter to it I think (other than having more shield cells). Flying in a wing and doing an offensive split is a possibility.
I agree .. and i do not. Not 80%. If you try to do a "plane like" dogfighting in space (Like FD want) you still have some choices of tactic there, for sample maneuvers.. yeah its no gravity no vertical no horizontal.. but you still can perform a scissors maneuver to try that your opponent pass you and you on his 6.. Take this maneuver in elite.. no point of performing maneuver,1) laser weapons it will hit where you point it 2) gimbaled it will hit automatically you dont need to point it correct. Now take acceleration in elite its just no good for dogfights its to fast.. and dont forget you have boost button. Turn fight in elite? no you dont need that you have boost and FA off button turn.. So my opinion.. FD want to make a plane like dogfights in space .. and i like it (just try a sidewinders duel in training with fixed weap.) but the point is they fail to do that. You have more tactical choices in "War Thunder" arcade mode than here in this "Dangerous" space-sim.

Maybe at 80% I'm exaggerating a bit. I know something about BFMs but I'm not an expert. You are right about the effects of pointing lasers. In addition lasers also have a huge range compared to aircraft guns. That also reduces the effectiveness of manoeuvring in Elite. Anyway, we'll have to live with it. I don't think Frontier can change much in the flight mechanics and weapon characteristics at this stage. By now too many players have become used to it.

Yeah, FD and we all know that the more arcade game is the more pl will play it and buy it. And what for hardcore pl? Or buy a ship max it with SCB,learn one tactic, or look for other games. Dont think Xbox arena will change something.. its arcade too.
