PvP i@ Federal distress signal

PvP @ Federal distress signal

Cruised into the Federal distress signal (like a hundred times before) and was immediately treated to a laser show. Very intense fighting about 10k out. I chose the Federation faction and headed in. At this distance I couldn't tell if there was and human commanders present but, there was a lot of ships, so I started scanning hostiles. Nothing human.

I engaged a hostile and took him out quickly. While searching for my next target I had a hostile commander fly right in front of me at about a 90 degree angle relevant to my ship orientation. I selected him as my target, full down thrusters, 50% throttle and I slid in behind him at about 50 meters. Fire! Woo! Hoo! His shields drop (I'm in a sidewinder, 2 lasers) an I can hear the metallic plunks off his hull as my lasers near over heating.

What's this? Another commander on my tail dropping my shields quickly? Two? Three? Oh crap time to bail. Four pips to engine, cruise charging and me jiving and juking as best I could.

As I sat all tingly watching the last sparks of my dying ship erupt into a ball of debris, I couldn't wipe the smile off my face.

Ya a couple days grinding for another laser lost, again, but I can't wait to do it all over, again. Good Lord this game is fun. :D:D:D

To the commanders that played their role and took me out, I salute you!

Hear hear! PvP gets bagged a LOT in any MMORPG and and this one's no exception. If it's in normal space I agree it should be avoided but if you're in a war zone, pirate area etc, you've chosen factions, and this guy is red to you he's fair game. Complaining about it in those areas is nothing more than whining about getting killed (again?) except if it's PvP you've got someone to whine at.

If FD expected us to avoid shooting at other places at any time they'd show up blue on the scanner, not red.

At the risk of this becoming another PvP V PvE thread (Please no) I really don't believe there are many complaining about PvP per se. Just when its Blue-on-Blue in area like FD or (For example) Bambi-ganking new sidewinders right outside the station just for kicks, sorry, sorry because they’re testing the limits of the Premium Beta... Of course!

Taking out another player who has chosen an opposing faction in a combat zone or who has a bounty on their head after you've scanned them is totally legit.

Some of the best moments I've had in game so far is when I've just managed to escape from an assailent who seems hell bent on reducing my ship to a scattered Sidewinder sized jigsaw puzzle.

No problems there, that's it, end of story... Roll credits! :)

I chose my side in a combat zone. It was an honorable fight and one voluntarily entered.

I too wish to avoid another PvP vs. PvE thread and I'll admit it's not perfect right now but, the choices the Devs have made so far are working and well for this stage, I'll trust they work it out before we get clearance for deep space travel ;)

I am making it a personal quest to occasionally post positive real posts about exciting fun times where the other commanders are what I'd call honorable.

Pirates can be honorable too, and I hope once the communication system is implemented and/or the friends list gets added we'll have additional options for honorable pirates to at least give the option of dumping cargo and they like before blowing us up. Less honorable pirates may find interdicting a group of friends a less desirable target ;)

I really, and I mean this, think Frontier will hit the sweet spot so to speak and we'll all be happy in the end.

But, that short battle was awesome :D

Yah.. I'm liking the idea of pirates that not only go "Give me your cargo" but send a request to your comms upon which you can click "Accept & Dump Cargo" or "Reject - No Cargo for You". Expanding on that theme I'd like to see options like "Offer Bribe" for those traveling without cargo, and you could even have similar options for corrupt police too; "Pilot you have a bounty of 700 credits, but perhaps I can be persuaded to look the other way" with options of "Pay off bounty 700C, Offer bribe 100C, Offer Bribe 250C, Offer Finger & Deploy Hardpoints" :)

I was at federal distress and saw an opposing commander and fell in behind him for the kill. Went on my way and blew up some more NPC's until I caught the attention of 3NPCs that caused me to do some quick maneuvering into the dreads to recharge my shields. Poked my head out and was taking out the NPCs that targeted me just to have the same commander from earlier fall in behind me and blow me to pieces. Thus the wheel continues to go round and round.

Whilst flying round in the sidewinder I've found that enemy players in cobras are way out of my league. Even bad ones.

Several times I've managed to get on their tail and let them have both barrels before they have reacted. However they can just stop, turret round and destroy me before I get their shields down. They are just simply more powerful which I guess is fair, they paid a lot more than I did for my "free" ship.

So I've learnt to keep my distance when I scan an enemy player in a cobra on the battlefield.

Yesterday I scanned one and started to move away when I noticed another friendly player in a sidewinder moving in to engage, the brave fool!. The cobra was engaging an npc and didn't appear to notice (or was to cocky to care straight away).

Seeing this, I decided to help out. Two sidewinders surely must be able to take down a cobra....right?

The other sidewinder got there first as I moved in to catch up. The cobra sure enough turreted round and started to hurt him. Then I arrived.

As I lit him up with two fully charged burst lasers, he turned tail and ran......I was astounded. "Come back here you *****" I yelled at my screen.

We got his shields down and his hull to about 40% before he managed to get out of weapons range. We both chased him until he was able to engage SC and escape.

Good times!

This game is a blast indeed... sometimes even outside the conflict zones.

I was approaching Azeban Station from one of those particularly satisfying stints in the Fed Distress Zone, replete with 2 pc kills under my belt, and, of course, needing to tend to ship repairs... as I never come out of that level of combat unscathed.

In my experience so far, the space around the stations is usually very quiet, very 'procedural', one might say.

As I approached the station portal, reading advertisements while awaiting clearance, I suddenly noticed gun play taking place inside the station. "What the ___?" I froze. All stop.

A moment later, out came the culprit, a Cmdr in a Sidewinder boosting wildly to exit the station, lasers ablaze, firing at I know not whom; and he swooshed past me in a mad dash to escape.

I locked him up immediately and turned in pursuit, a) to check his status, and b) to keep an eye on such a free radical... you know, that self preservation thing.

It was no surprise to find him Wanted.

God only knows what mischief that poor sod got himself into inside that station. Whatever he'd done though, it seemed he would escape in one piece this time. Godspeed and good luck you crazy *******, and all that jazz.

But he made a crucial mistake as a wanted pilot: he should have pushed pips to engines and kept on boosting, as he had a head start on me. Apparently, he didn't do so. Unfortunately for him, it would be a costly mistake.

I shot him down, and sent him and his escape pod limping back to the claims adjusters at Lloyds of London.

He was worth 200cr.

200cr. I think I'll have Lobster Newburg tonight at Delmonico's au Azeban...

It's good to hear some exciting war stories instead of the complaining ones. I'm having a great time testing, I love how the different environments require a different approach whilst all of them have that edgy sense of danger and apprehension. You just never know what's going to happen.

I must warn you, at the federal distress signal I've seen that if you choose federation faction, you'll have every PC against you.
It seems like everyone chooses Eranin to farm the NPC's and then when some PC shows up that decided to choose Federation everyone instantly blows him up

No problem, if I minded getting blown up, I'd stay away from conflict zones :D

Besides, I have a soft spot for underdogs :D
