PvP: KBM vs HOTAS vs Gamepad

What control setup is best for PvP? Is it HOTAS? Or gamepad? Mouse and Keyboard? Is it true that HOTAS dominates mouse and keyboard or is it really vice versa?

KB+M is generally considered superior (especially for hitscan weapons).

Whatever, the primary difference is the capability of the pilot and to some extent the build- especially if you get into a battle of attrition

Mouse and Keyboard for shooting, definitely. But competitive play is only part of the game's appeal. A HOTAS, if you can afford one, is a superb addition to the base game. I can hear Yamiks bellowing 'My immmmeeerrrshun', but it really does draw you into the fantasy that you're flying a make believe spaceship. It makes pulling off fancy manoeuvres feel like an achievement, it's much more intuitive than a gamepad and it's brilliant fun, amongst many other things.

depends on the pilot - any form of control can be incredible in the right hands.

at the AXI the Top 10 ACE rank pilots all have their own control methods, from HOTAS to KBM to Xbox controller. FA OFF can be mastered with any

I fly HOTAS but there’s pros and cons to each. KBM definitely gives me finer long distance aiming but I find the HOTAS much more intuitive for FAoff, especially when using the little finger analog stick on the throttle for maneuvering thrusters.

I wish the game had a built in “curves” settings for flight sticks. Yes, I know there’s a 3rd party application for that.
