Wouldn't it be cool if they added some competitive matches to the game like, Team death match? Capture The Station/Outpost, Hold the cargo! This list could go on But aye you get the Idear. :D Love it or hate it tell me what you think!

Sorry, but ED is not that sort of game.

If they added that then there would be a ton of balance threads "NERF THIS ERMIGERD SO OP" and so on and so on.

It would turn a sandbox experience into a competitive game, which I am not comfortable with in the slightest.

Dude, what stopping you from getting some people to set up your own game, by your own rules? Plenty of ways to do that, but it needs a little more than clicking the "Battle" button. A brain.

No need for a sorry, But yeah I understand. I knew this forum post would be suicide but it's worth it.

Pick a resource gathering site or an asteroid belt somewhere and set it up. You don't need Frontier to do it for you.

I guess a group could be set up for this type of thing. But it would require a lot of good planning.

Already perfectly possible to organize such things from within the game, and the game itself does not need any special system for this. Indeed, I think an arbitrary set of rules constituting a PvP ladder mode or anything similar would be all-round detrimental.

And "Race to Elite" isn't just as detrimental lol. But I get your point.

Then after that, what - rewards for being the best killer????
Anyone wants to PvP - go for it, everything you need is in the game now.
Me No Thanks.

The problem with this (I love pvp arenas btw) is we already have pretty shattered community due to the 3 game modes. This would mean further segregation.

I actually like this idea quite a bit, and it would add to the universe too! Say you can only match up with people who are above a certain rank in a certain faction, and that these are combat simulations for training purposes. It would give people more reason to gain ranks within factions, and we could have more pvp action with objectives involved rather than just a standard deathmatch (which is all you would get if you just organised it yourself).

I love the idea of someone that cares about PvP (which isn't me) organising tournaments for people that want to PvP competitively.

There isn't any need for Frontier intervention to get this going though. Let me outline the plan I had come up with a while ago when I was considering this.

Every entrant pays an entry fee of a tonne of palladium (or other such fee as may be decided) the winner will collect all the palladium as a prize - I like the Top Gun line "Top gun is about combat. There are no prizes for 2nd place." Additionally, each pilot is responsible for having sufficient cash to afford the rebuy or repair costs of their ships.

24 hours prior to the competition, entries are closed. The number of entrants will be made up to the next power of 2 (4,8,16,32) with blank pilot slips, and then the first round matches will be drawn from a hat. A blank slip drawn against a player represents a bye, and that player will automatically advance to the next round.

The format for each match is as follows
  1. A referee and the 2 players will meet in a designated anarchy system. The referee will scan each combatant ship to verify they are in compliance with the competition fitting rules.
  2. The referee will retreat from the combatants, and announce the start of the match on a shared voice chat between both pilots and the referee
  3. The match will continue until one of the ships is destroyed, or 15 minutes has elapsed.
  4. Leaving the area will be classed as a defeat

Each match will be recorded and live streamed by the referee.

Defeated participants will be eliminated from the competition

As it stands, fitting rules would be relatively simple

1. Only the Sidewinder, Hauler, Eagle, Adder, Viper and Cobra hulls may be used.
2. No more than 1 shield cell bank may be fitted to a ship
3. Cargo holds must be empty

This would, I think, have the potential to be a popular competition if organised.

A deathmatch/arena mode from the main menu is something I would like to see. I wouldn't have it combined with the normal game, that would be stupid.
