Modes PvP mode in ED?

We all know that PvP in ED isn't what exactly well implemented. Outfitting and engineering is "balanced" for PvE and combat/menu logging and block lists makes fights rather pointless.
PvP is often reduced to arranged duels or quick dispatching of soft targets.

Having a PvP mode would allow for some rule changes, that would make PvP better.

Examples:
- No logout timer. When in danger, you can not log out.
- Ungraceful exit of any kind means rebuy.
- No premium ammo.
- Mass lock works on hi-wake.
- Heavy diminishing returns on defensive modules.
- No block list.

Well paying PvP related content could be added, to make the mode attractive for credit seeking commanders.

If done well this could be way to provide a fair and enjoyable playground for PvP focused commanders. At the same time it could make regular Open mode more accessible for PvE focused players.

It would not solve any issues with 'hiding' in other modes. Powerplay could potentially be PvP mode only?

Would you play this mode, if it was available?

Great Idea, while your at it them make Open pure PVE.. then you can have a PVP mode and PVERs can have a PVE mode. Hmmmm now I could have sworn someone has suggested this before...

The issue with the Open PvE that has been suggested many times, it the complexity of game mechanics.

Having a system were you there are guarantied not to be harmed by the actions of other commanders is almost impossible, without resorting to the use of ghost representation. Unless commanders are able to fly through each other without any interaction, it will not be good enough to stop those who want to make trouble.

Far less expencive to just allow instant log out, in regular open.

CQC is like playing a completely different game, like Everspace. What I want to see are PvP oriented activities and gameplay incorporated within the actual game I've spent thousands of hours becoming invested in.

There are PvP activities in ED though.... Well, sort of.

Kill missions can be completed via player kills only.
CZs have the option for PvP to count for your CZ missions.

But I know what you mean, actual real PvP content, not multipurpose content would be nice.

I think there's a much easier way to implement Open PvE: no game changes, but if you send anyone to the rebuy screen you get excluded from it for a month. If that was provided I'd also be happy with the OP suggestion, although I probably wouldn't play in it myself.

Yeah, something structured is what I meant. I'm happy to offer/hear suggestions, but the bottom line is that when it comes to PvP, the reason I personally do not engage CQC is simply because I feel like it has no relationship to my time invested in ED. I'd love for Frontier to give us some legitimate content that we can sink our teeth into. Maybe after they get done with exploration enhancements they'll finally throw PvPers a bone....

War! Civil war! Feds vs Imps. Only CMDR kills count. No PvE mechanics. No hauling from A to B, just B shooting up A and verse visa. Begone from this battlefield with your trading T-7. If it isn't packing you should be packing up.

Now where's my medication! [mad]

I don't know about your medication, but that idea hit me like a quadruple the recommended dosage of Cialis.

It's actually quite a viable solution. If faction choice actually "meant" something in this game, it would provide adequate "meaning" to PvP in Open to begin with.

Instead some seem to be stuck on this "Carebear vs PvP" mentality. ;)

So pretty much, lets give PVPers another open with these settings changed, but for PVErs oh sorry but the game mechanics will be too complex to change to let's just leave that open the way it was before? If so then WHY another mode... there already IS a mode for PVP. Now there will be 2? and PVErs oh sorry

I never do PvP in ED. Not because I don't like PvP in general, but because the implementation in ED is so poor.
I think a PvP mode with propper balance would reduce the pressure on regular open. It would also allow FD to say that combat logging is fully legal in Open.
Open could become a PvE mode, without major to mechanics.

It's a win win.

The only way for Open to become PVE mode would be to disable ship damage by commanders to others commanders... If you leave open as it is and make a new PVP server, you cannot claim that Open is the PVE server when the ability to destroy other commander's ships is still there.

That's true, but do we really need such mechanics. Mobius works without them. Open could work the same way, couldn't it?

Everyone has access to Open - and can't be "kicked" by the managers of that "Private Group" (as there are no Managers apart from Frontier - and it's not a PvE private Group), so, no - Open does not work that way.

Everyone agrees to abide by the rules of those Private Groups prior to joining them, on penalty of being kicked for transgressions - there are no "rules" of Open to abide by (other than those set by Frontier - and those include PvP).

Would we need such mechanics... the answer is simple. YES! Mobius works with them because the admins spend a LOT of time on it and actually try and Vet people. You think that Fdev is going to do that?

Rules can change if there is an alternative. The official forum is administered by community members. That could be done for an official mode to.
