PvP, PvE, payment model, and Balance/Realistic?

Sorry if this is the wrong section of the forums or is easily accessible somewhere, but I found the forums here confusing and am not up to date on Elite Dangerous.

So just a few questions:
What is the payment model? Pay to play, free to play or the normal buy a game and the DLC.
Are there going to be micro transactions? (I hate those)

I know there will be separate servers for players wishing for PvP and PvE but will for example a PvP server have things like safe zones or other annoying things like PvP sliders? I really like how the Dayz standalone has done things at the moment.

Is Elite dangerous aiming to be Realsitic or balanced or somewhere in between?

Thanks for taking the time to read and possibly answer my questions about the game. I'm extremely excited for it.

Could you please link the source of the above? I'm new here, but it's the first time I read about this. Multiple shards/realities just kill immersion, and having multple shards negates the necessity of the group-modes and instancing it seems.

There will be separate playing modes though, the multiplayer options of which are all implemented or have impact on on the same (single) shard though:

In the galaxy there are systems with police but also anarchy systems. I guess you could consider the heavily policed systems as safe(r) zones. Except if you're a known/tagged pirate, in which case you are safe nowhere.

Welcome to the forum Pro Gamer.

(1) Purchase the game then free to play onwards. DLC may cost depending upon your initial purchase. The servers might (currently under discussion - hurry up FD!) be supported by Micro-Transactions but exactly how we don't know for sure.

(2) Same server for PVP / PVE. There will be 2 playing modes (Normal / Ironman) that dictates, amongst other things, how death is handled, coupled with 3 ways to join the same server (Solo / Group / Everyone) that determines who you play with

(3) Realistic without compromising gameplay.

Payment model is pay to play. MT will be there, but at what amount is currently discussed between FD and community. People can play game in single player both online and offline, so MT effects can be avoided if you desire so (also you can play only with your friends).

There's no separate servers for PvP and PvE, it's one ED universe and one meta server. Separation if player wishes so is done by local instance group matchmaking. There are three major groups - You can play either alone with NPCs online, or play with everyone, or play with friends. FD won't enforce 'PvP flag' or any kind of PvP indication system - if you play with 'open all', you are expected to be attacked by other players, like it or not.

If you desire to avoid PvP attacks, you will want to play 'single online' or 'closed' group, you will be either alone, or matched with people on your friends/friendly/specific list. Also bear in mind friendly fire exists.

Playing offline is possible, but no migration between online and offline modes.

of sorts. You buy the game then its free from there on in, except any upgrade packages depending on your level of purchase (as Liqua Stated)

pay to play I thought was a subscription method.

To be fair though unless you wish a life as a pirate don't expect to be blown up by players ... Sure it's going to happen, however as a pirate (the people who will attack you) don't progress along their chosen path if they kill you - only Bounty Hunters enjoy that luxury ;)

Payment model is pay to play.

And just to nail the point home Elite D is not pay to play :D

there is some talk of micro-transactions but nothing has been decided, and as liqua said you may have to pay for DLC depending on your initial purchase.

well, todays SW world is full of confusing mixed models

Free to Play: you don't pay (money) to play the game - ED is not free of charge
  • Classic Free to Play: you pay nothing and have no way of doing so.
  • Free to Play with MT (micro transactions): you don't pay to play the game, but if you want some bonuses (e.g. items) or go over some limitations, you may do so by spending cash.
  • Free to play with MT and PTW (Pay To Win): as above, but if you want to have any reasonable chance of progress/having fun, you need to pay/ your ability to achieve something in game depends on you wallet.

Pay to play: you need to pay to play the game
  • Pay to play traditional model: pay once, play forever (usual singleplayer games one buys)
  • Pay to play with Subscription model: you need to pay a recurring fee to play the game ("WoW" model) - ED is not one of these
  • Pay to play with MT: You pay once for the base game and no regular payments, but if you want some bonuses (e.g. items), you may do so by spending cash. ED is probably one of these, with the MT going for funding the server with the PU.
