The US military destroyed its own anti-ISIS headquarters in Syria, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday, to prevent them from falling into the hands of fighters backed by Turkey.

I was rotten at soccer myself, and can only sympathize with the ineptitude. In their wildest dreams, ISIS could never have achieved that themselves.
Ok, no, can't do it, I am LOL ing so hard... I never, on my worst day, ever did an own goal or took out my own goalie for that matter.

Can any other nation top this one? Is it possible to be dumber?
What?
Yes, UK, I'll hold that beer for you...

Denying the enemy assets (even if they were previously our own) is kinda standard global military doctrine. Not seeing an issue here.

I'm surprised they didn't destroy it on the way out.

While the decision of leaving in the manner they did may be controversial, the decision to not just leaving fortifications and supplies for anyone to take should not be.

Apart from useful equipment and information of tactics and strategy....
Any equipment left behind that is then turned and used on civilians or civilian targets (schools, hospitals, churches). Well no one want to deal with that PR headache.

I understand, that most of the stuff, was left ready for the russians to, liberate?

Scapa Flow. WW1

The worlds oceans are full of ex-military kit, from WW1 & WW2. Just dumped over the side, left to rot, as no longer required. Or, in the case of Indochina, left behind, because they were running too fast, and could not afford to carry the stuff.
