Python Explorer

Bought the Python for PvE, but that had 2 issues. The top tier modules cost a fortune, and I'm a procrastinator, not a fighter. The other issue I have is that I severely dislike the DragonBall Explorer, but wanted to take another boat out on a tour. Sitting in a shipyard flicking through their catalog, the obvious hit me. Take the Python for a walk.

First I thought it would be an ungainly beast to go sightseeing in, but I am surprised to say, I like it a lot.

Boat: Python
Name: Antilles' Wedge
Nickname: Ducky

Say hello Ducky

Pros
- looks great in screenshots
- able to squeeze 25 ly of jumpdistance out
- runs rather cold in hippyspace, 54 percentidegrees
- it's white

Cons
- pitch-rate that would turn Barry White pale
- wants to sniff every earthlike it finds
- very camera happy, fills half the screen

I was planning to go to Eagle and back with it, because I figured the Python isn't built for exploring. I was wrong. I never looked forward to flying the Python to patrol RESes, but I love the long walkies with it.

Already had a tense moment when 4 stars wanted to cuddle the old girl, but Ducky didn't even flinch. Never went above 75 percentidegrees. Good heat vents.

And as I said, she has a nose for Earthlikes

So, instead of turning around as I planned, I might be gone for some time. :)

If I run into something interesting along the way, or she catches a moon rabbit, I'll let you guys know.

Interesting, any chance you could link the setup you're using? Really want a Python myself, but neber figured it'd go with my explorer nature :)

D6 thrusters
D6 shield
A6 scoop
D6 distributer
A5 FSD
D4 life support
D6 sensors
D5 powerplant
DSS
ADS
136 ton cargo space

No heat sinks, no AFMU.

Interesting idea. I was thinking the exact same thing a while back, but I never could bring myself to strip it of its A grades.
Following with interest.

There's something about having a white Python. Maybe it's because it comes in boring grey by default? I've got one, and a few explorers I know have white ones too. It's so you can see it on selfies. :)

Pretty ship...might have to get one of those myself when I come back in from the black, although I'm sure I'll have the cash for an Asp or maybe even an Anaconda by then (and one very beat to hell Diamondback Explorer). Now if they'll just give my DBX some paint jobs instead of the boring yellow...

After 2 weeks of flying this sexy thing, I believe in miracles.

It's not an adequate explorer, it's an excellent explorer. On par with the Asp as far as I'm concerned. The Asp has the disadvantage of looking like a fat toad, the Python has the disadvantage of having no peripheral vision. The Asp's problem can be solved by keeping it out of shot, the Python's can be solved by flying on radar. Found a solution for the slow pitch by keeping the speed in the blue (just not when scanning a sun).

Now I stripped the whole thing for max jump range, but I'm still surprised how cold this thing runs. I don't think I ever went over 80 percentidegrees.

1,000 ly is 42-43 jumps, so it's 30% more than the Asp. But I care little about that. On my way to Eta Carinae before heading home, but I'm in no hurry.

Obligatory holiday snaps :)

I have to say the dark screenshots with the Python side lights do look real menacing... It kind of reminds me of those deep sea fish that use light to attract prey :)

Glad to see I'm not the only one taking this beast in the black. Now if they'd just let us put a 6A equivalent FSD in this thing (think prismatic shields)...

I ultimately would like a python, but some of your pictures make it look shorter and stubbier than I imagined. I wonder what kind of sound it makes?
My Asp sounds like a biplane, but I'm surprised at how quickly it can get around the galaxy.

That's more due to the debug camera's limitations than to the Python's shape, I think. It looks quite elegant, but it's difficult to capture.

I took my Python to beyond Sag A and back. Took a few attempts. Had a couple of mishaps that certainly were pilot error rather than ship integrity.

On one such trip I even went out in the black for several weeks with a fully A-classed Python loaded for bear back when we had some griefer trouble at the core. I was going to play guardian angel but took too long to get there with the whopping 13ly jump range on that ship.

Currently out in the black with an Asp on a different account but I was always happy with the Python as an explorer. It is a ship of many faces for sure.

Good luck and fly safe Cmdr.
