Python, fuel bill INSANE!!

Why does fuel for the Python cost so much? I just upgraded from my T7 to the Python, the fuel cost me 2k for the T7 on my trade route but cost 10k for the Python on the same route. You would think that the lighter Python would have a cheaper fuel cost than the T7, what do they put in the fuel tank Gold bars!!!

Do a little background work before you buy a ship :D That would have spared you from disappointment. Next thing you will be complaining is the fact that system authority interdicted you and made 2 % hull damage and the repair bill is 20.000+ credits. Consider yourself warned :D

It is a big ship, 350 tonnes plus cargo etc.

From the Elite wiki:
...the Python does suffer from exceptionally high operating costs, making it a potentially cost-prohibitive option for many players.

"Exceptionally high operating costs" says it all! Plus the high purchase cost to boot. I suspect the Devs didn't want everyone barn-storming about in Pythons, so they made it expensive to buy and run.

hull is pricy indeed

Overheated once: 74% hull left. Repair bill: 590.000cr
And it might go up even higher depending on the credits spent on high priced modules.

Have some decent amount of spare credits to soak up unfortunate encounters, mistakes or whatever can go wrong and will cost you... And for gods sake, be sure you have enough for insurance!
The fuel issue, well another commander, gave a fair rp description. It is a high performance spacecraft which uses high performance fuel, hence the insane fuel thirst.

Viper vs Python is like comparing the fuel costs of a speed boat and a small frigate.

Except that FD made the mistake of explicitly calibrating fuel tanks in Tons. A Ton of hydrogen should be a Ton of hydrogen, no matter what ship it goes into. This is nothing but a sloppy/lazy way to shoehorn higher costs into the higher-tier ships. The sad thing is that it's completely unnecessary. The same effect could be had simply by raising wear&tear costs while keeping fuel on a linear scale.

Less cargo space. The hyped 284T cargo starts to come down as you add fuel scoops, SCB, docking computers etc.

Yeah, but it's simple maths.. How much is your fuel bill compared to how much profit you would lose from removing a 4/8/16T rack. On my last route I saved a huge amount of cash by removing an 8 ton rack and installing a scoop

You do know you can install a 6A,5A,4A,wutever fuel scoop, use it to fill up your gas tank from 5% and then replace it with a cargo bay and get the full purchase price back right?

You may have saved a bunch of cash, but i bet your trade route took longer. Fairly certain the longer trip isn't worth the fuel scoop.

Really... You are whining about 10k fuel bill? I pay out 35k+ in ammo alone after 8 hours of hunting with plasma accelerators using a viper.... When you can make 400k+ in one jump trading and still complain about a tiny bill that can be mitigated by killing one NPC, just Smh.

It take about 2 to 3 days or 10~ hours to make a million. And im in Istanu as well which is supposed to have alot goin on....

I can't remember the last time I paid for a full load of fuel. I just top up the tank for free at the closest star to my last stop.

Yeah, a whopping great 120 seconds to fill to the my standard 75%.. T9 makes me 1.1 million per run on my route, takes 9 minutes, 11 minutes when I scoop on the second run. Am not in any hurry dude.

If I didn't scoop I would pay 150,000 credits every two runs, that's the cost of a Cobra every 20 minutes, rather keep the money thanks :)
