Python, good for combat?

Hey bros, sorry for that foolish question, actually I am going to sell my FDL and get the Python mostly for trading. What is the Pythons performance in fight? (Single/Wing)

Thanks

The python trades maneuverability for firepower and power overhead for all the shield cell banks you can think of. It won't turn it isn't the fastest ship but it will destroy most other ships PVE PVP or in a wing.
imho it's superior to the FDL but they both have their strengths in PvP.

It's great as long as everyone decides to turn there engines off and not out run it.

I hope static battles become a thing, in which case pythons and anacondas will get to join in rather than puff behind like the fat boy in the school race.

Depends what you're trying to do tbh. If I along with a few others wanted to push red cmdrs out of a warzone, Pythons would be best. If you want to hit'n'run, anything other than the python.

As much as I like the Python, in PvP - at least in 1v1 situations - it will unfortunately not kill anything, except other Pythons, if we don't take freighters into account. Condas and Dropships can jump out any time, because they can't be mass locked and everything else will just hit boost and say byebye. This means, if you are not flying a Python yourself, you can ignore all Python commanders, because they are no threat.

I had no problem killing Elite Anacondas face to face at 600m.
If I targeted the PP, it melted like an Eagle and it was boring.

If I wanted to trade and fit some cargo racks, I would seriously gimp the shields, which are not that great for its size.

A big point here is pve or pvp? PvE the Python with 3C Gimbal Beams and 2C Multi-cannons is a trading beast. You can run a trade route and hit the nav beacons at either end for some light relief and have very few worries. NPC Eagles who sit 1km off your nose and demand cargo can be vapourised before they even manage to get thrusters to 100% and you can carry 250t+ of cargo to boot :)
PvP anyone that will lose will outrun you, anyone that will win will out turn you (simplistically speaking).

I have been back in the Python as my main ship for a while now (having spent most of my time in the FdL since its release) and whilst she is slow and requires a ton of FA Off boosting and reverski to keep her in the fight against more nimble opponents she is capable of serious shock and awe.

The big plant means you can run any loadout you want and the wealth of internals make her incredibly versatile. As a multirole ship she is awesome, arguably the best in the game.

That was exactly my intention, the first thing I want to do is just to trade for some days, but I wondered when my clanmates ask me to join PvP/PvE with them I can have a good combat performance in combination with their Vultures and Asps. I want to avoid single fight situations as I already know that Python will have problems in such

If your joining a wing with vultures Python will be fine.. The smaller ships cover your weakness as long as you don't get separated when they get excited none will stand before you.
