Yes, you are probably right. Problem is, that in my case, the 13.87 vs 14.17 Ly jump make a difference on my favorite trade route. So I went for 5D shield and less cargo. I will probably change this in future.

Long time PYTHON owner myself. If the python is new to you. And low on credits. I would sugest witchever A rated power plant you can get your hands on.. I started out with a A3 myself to be honest and just worked my way up till I got the best stuff.

Hmm, I just tested it and NO, you can't use a 4A shields. The maximum mass of the 4A shield generator is too small and game does not allow you to buy the 4A gen.
i have been flying with 4A shields for a week now. I will post a screenshot when I'm at home.
I'm in outfitting at Acquired Taste Orbital, Furthorc with an A5 currently fitted and the the option to buy class 4 A,B,C and D is available. It won't let me buy an E2 though...
My powerplant is A6, but I can't see how that would make a difference?

In fact I think you might even be able to buy a class 3. I'll check when I'm on later.

Beams heat up faster than pulse or burst, if I recall. That could be part of the problem.
I have only burst and pulse on mine (no turrets though), with everything else A rated, and it runs ridiculously cool. I can stay on the trigger all day long and never get a heat warning. As you work your way through the upgrade cycle, that thing will start running cooler and cooler as you replace modules.
I'd definitely start with the power plant and distributor (to keep that capacitor filling as fast as possible) and see where that gets you. It should help keep the temps reasonable.

Actually, you can. Max out your thrusters, and you should have no issues at all with the shield generator.

I already have 6A thrusters. Maybe I should sell my 5D shield first, I will try it.
Yes, it works. I just sold 5D shield, bough 32t cargo rack and after this change, I was able to buy 4A shield gen. instead of 16t cargo rack. Thx for advice.

yup it will only let you have 1 shield fitted at a time
I may have misunderstood you. I thought it wasn't letting you have it at all, even after selling the 5D.
