python loadout fo trading

i was wondering should i get a class 4 or class 3 shield and what is a good loadout for trading (weapons included in case some bleephead npc trying to interdict me)

I wouldn't skimp on shields if I was you, due to insane repairs. I have 3xC3 pulse lasers and 2 beam lasers which work out well.

My trading config is A3 shields, the rest all bays, and whatever weapon array you feel comfortable with. When trading I prefer turrets as the emphasis is on getting on with business rather than stopping for pleasure, as I prefer to only fight when I'm in a combat config, and the A 3 is sufficient for evasion but not for sustained fights with no cells. This may change next week with shield boosters.

From my ship notes, i did update the weapon build and upped the power to a 5A from this but it give a good general idea

I see no reason to fit any weapons at all if you're going with a 3D shield, that's not going to last in many fights.

I personally fitted my Python with 284t cargo, 3A shield and every time the fuel ran low, I bought the best scoop available and sold that on the next stop again.

i did up the shield to a A3 but didnt find much dif , i traded in solo and if interdicted i looked to see what was attacking python or annie i would boost FA off and jump shields would hold for that, anything below the python didnt last long enough to take the shields down, i did make adjustments to the build posted i just didnt keep track of them in my notes, and now the only python i have is my combat fun ship. the build posted was just to give an idea of what he could do with a build to get decent range.

Ye gods.. please tell me you're not flying that without enough to cover the insurance....

I was using this setup for about 6 weeks, without weapons, when my credit balance looked very healthy, I then decided I was through with drop and evade so I put the weapons on it and bit back, the bounty's from small ships up to Cobra size are incidental anything larger saw me back in sc quick time. The only problem for me with this set up were the weak shields and my forgetfulness to manage them in a fight.

So I sacrificed 40t of cargo space for the 5A shilds with the need to maintain a 14.5 ly jump ability for my current trade run, I loose 170k in trade each run but I'm having much more fun doing it, every setup is a compromise, you just have to live with it. I still run from other Pythons and above due to the undersize shields but I take on everything else regardless of rank without taking hull damage and I'm still ranked mostly harmless). I'm talking solo mode so these are interdicting npc only I've not had to use the shield cells yet despite my amateurish ship fighing skills. The Pyhons a hardy beast despite the recent err! changes and is well suited as a versatile armed trader and being able to park it at outposts is just the icing on the cake for my trading.

hope these liks to the ship yard work.

This is my current setup. Lets me do some fairly decent trade runs while still being robust enough to take care of anything stupid enough to interdict me, or let me go bounty hunting when I get bored doing milk runs. Power usage stats are off a little from what shows in game though.

Downgrade shield class, max cargo racks, determin your desired FSD jump range and try to have it on 1 big jump if possible.
I would ditch weapons and try shield boosters when they hit live. You dont want to fight while trading its a waste of money and time.

I have a pure trading setup. 3A shields, the rest is cargo bays - 284 T capacity. I don't think it's worth it to have a fuel scoop on your typical trade run. A class 4 fuel scoop reduces cargo capacity with 16 T. You should earn minimum 1100 cr/t on a half decent route. That's over 17000 cr lost per lap - which is about what it costs in fuel on my current 17 ly route. So a fuel scoop makes it about even in terms of just cr, but it is lost time so it reduces cr/h.

I see no reason to fit any weapons at all if you're going with a 3D shield, that's not going to last in many fights.

I personally fitted my Python with 284t cargo, 3A shield and every time the fuel ran low, I bought the best scoop available and sold that on the next stop again.

Yup, that's more or less my logic too. I'm using the Python as a trader right now, and running from interdictions. So I don't see any point carrying any weapons if I'm not able to fight. I have a 3A shield fitted, which is good enough to take a few hits whilst boosting away from your interdictor and waiting for your FSD to cool down. I chose the 3A as a compromise...I didn't want to sacrifice more cargo space, but I wanted a fair amount of protection to try and avoid very costly hull repairs. The only difference is that I carry a fuel scoop, again, a 3A. It depends on your trade run as to whether that's an economical choice. My trade run is quite modest, but steady. I make about 1300 credits per tonne profit at best. Sacrificing an 8 tonne slot means effectively I'm losing about 10k credits profits per journey but I'm saving about 20k fuel on that, so it makes economic sense. So I'm trade running with 276t cargo space, max.

Once I'm up to about 120 million cash in my pocket I'm going to buy a Type 9 and then use that as my trader, and may keep my Python for other tasks. I do like how it flies, but I'll see what my goals are....I like a little exploring, and the Python isn't the best for that, as far as I can see :)
