Python Mk.2 "Out of Stock"

Hello, I have a peculiar issue with Elite, and I can't seem to find any information regarding it.

I'm helping a friend get into Elite, and they want a Python Mk.2, they've acquired the credits to purchase it, however, each station they go to that lists the Ship on Inara; it lists the ship as Out of Stock when they try to buy it, and to be very clear, they are not landing on Fleet Carriers.

Is there a specific criteria that needs to be met to buy one? is this bugged currently? or do we need to go to very specific locations?

I've returned after about 4 years away from Elite, so, a lot of this is new to me.

Does your friend own Odyssey? If not then the Python Mk II (and all of the new Odyssey ships) are only available for ARX unlock to players who only own Horizons.

It's worth noting that buying the Odyssey DLC does not cost that much more than each non-Jumpstart ship unlock.

They definitely do have Odyssey, they eventually managed to buy one at a Surface Station, but all Orbital Stations listed them as 'Out of Stock'. We figured it's likely an ED:O specific thing.

Appreciate the information, though, I couldn't determine if it was an EDO ship or not.

As for now, I have an up-hill battle with an Orange Sidewinder Error. Yippee.

I would be curious what build he uses on it for combat. I can't see how its any better than the regular Python given the Mk2 has so few optional internal slots.

It's very slightly better in some regards according to Coriolis.
I tried to convince her to use the standard Python, but given how there's not much of a difference for what she wanted it for, she opted for it. She and I really enjoy the design of the Mk.2.
I was able to convince her to use a standard Python for Mining, since, she wanted a fast Mining/Hauler Ship.

This is the build I gave her:

She made some adjustments to it, but she's very happy with it.

It’s faster and has more hard points, but it has a smaller power distributor, so weapons like Frag Cannons or Pacifiers make it very deadly in the hands of a good pilot. There are numerous videos demonstrating this.

I wish it had been out of stock for me today - what a waste of space - the PD is far too small. A whole afternoon and lots of eng mats wasted on this.

I’m not gonna try to change your mind, but I will say that the P2 is available for purchase at numerous locations and 3rd party sites like INARA can provide locations. Also, if you fly in open to any location where gankers hang out, you could learn that they can make you dead in <10 seconds using a P2. So it’s a very good combat ship.

I actually saw it for sale, in stock, on the nearest data broker to Titan Hadar (I forget where it is) last night.

Using Inara wasn't very reliable, since we were going to stations that claimed to have them but listed them as "Out of Stock" when we arrived, hence why I inquired about it to begin with. I'm pretty certain Shipyards don't go out of stock right? To clarify, she was going to the concourse to purchase one since she sold her ship first, no idea why.

I just checked my home station, and they are for sale here. Cartu system, Giraud Ring. Go dogs, go!

Edit: NO, it's not a trap.
