Python or Anaconda multipurpose for imp rep grind?

I am aiming for a Cutter, and the obvious problem is that I don't have the imp rank required to be able to buy it.

And so my plan is to fully upgrade into multipurpose either my Anaconda or Python, and do various missions until I advance enough in rank. But I can't decide which to upgrade and play with. What do you think?

Also, can I accelerate the process if I join a power?

And to be honest, grind is not quite the correct word, I plan to take it easy, but still be efficient.

I'm doing it in an A-Rated Python holding 200T cargo.
Like the post above says, medium landing pads.
A lot of the missions send you to remote outposts.

Python. Definitely Python.

(P.S. I bought this BEFORE the Empire CG ended, out of assets I already had.)

Python for sure - nothing beats it for cargo space and the ability to land at outposts. Its great for Imperial ranking missions ans well as collecting engineer materials.

I have mine setup as an armed trader with an engineered 5A shield gen and 256 tons of cargo space, along with grade

My Python helped me get to Duke last week and I immediately bought a Cutter just as the Morai CG started. Got into the top 10% and stayed there till the end :)

Edit - see above post.

Many other have suggested a Python, but I would like to say otherwise.

If you look at the horizons, there will be ship transfer and cargo storage feature coming in 2.2. When the patch drops, you will be able to summon a cheap Asp/T6 or so to your location at any time should you need to dock at outposts. This greatly diminishes Python's competitive edge over Anaconda, being able to dock at outposts.

Thanks for the replies, Python it is then.

And do you think joining an imp power bring any benefit to my quest?
Some of the long distance missions might take you to Federal space, if you are pledged to the Empire, expect hostility.
I haven't pledged to any power, I enjoy the freedom of going where ever I please.
Sure there are benefits in pledging, but I doubt it helps grinding a rank.

Sold! It will be mine this evening, cannot resist any more!

Edit: for the rank grinding - Python.

For ranking there is no advantage in joining a power.
There are only disadvantages because enemy powers will bother you more.

Which is a bit strange now I come to think of it.
It would be cool if we got a 10 or 20% rep bonus to our ranking efforts if we are pledged to a power that belongs to the same major faction.
At the same time we should get a penalty if we are pledged to an enemy power.

Thank you! Indeed its strange that there are no rank benefits for joining a power. But that prismatic shield I hear so much about might be worth it.

Be prepared for some major grinding. I mean major :)

I started from Baron (which I had been for about a year) a week ago, and decided it was time to "catch up" with the Empire ranking so I could get a Cutter.

And the Last Great Push To Duke was an epic grind...

Again note I bought a Cutter almost straight after that - I had enough assets to strip (Anaconda, the grinding Python, and all the cash from Empire grinding combined).

Only after I got the Cutter did I decide to do the Empire CG - got in the top 10% too which was nice - thanks, new Cutter! ;)

And lastly, here's my current outfitting - for exploration, natch!

And with some judicious Engineering mods here's its jump range...

That's with all weapons/utility mounts populated, and a full tank of fuel :)

And I still haven't fully lightened her yet, with more Engineer mods to come. Next thing to grind out ;)

I'd take an ASP and focus on Data missions.

I've rarely had interdictions doing data missions, even when stacking several (5-8 was the highest without switching modes with good reputation in a single power system) and the ASP is really quick to travel (not just jumps, but also good SC handling and going quickly to a station - you can boost near 400 into the slot or onto a landing pad).

Cargo + possible interdictions + Python -> lot of unnecessary delay.

Cargo storage is not going to be a thing. Unless you mean (empty) cargo module storage...? Also, you will not be able to "summon a cheap ASP or T6" - unless you own one already. And neither of those ships can carry half as much cargo as a Python.

If you're "grinding" multipurpose - the Python is the better option - unless you're stinking rich (so can pimp the Anaconda) and don't care about missing out on outpost jobs.

I don't know what "stinking rich" is in this game. I have about 600 million credits in assets, and I don't know if that's so much. Enough for a cutter and to keep my current ships I guess.

I've never been able to come up with a comfortable Anaconda build (with a decent jump range) that's anywhere near as effective as my Python.

Even with an A-grade (un-engineered of course) FSD, I've always had a better jump distance/armouring/cargo ratio in the Python. But I might value jump distance too highly.

Ranking is a slow process. And yes, as others have said, the Python is the workhorse, because it allows you to deliver to outposts, and a lot of the missions you do for rep go to outposts (data delivery, etc.)

I have both a Corvette and a Cutter so I know how the ranking up thing goes.

I have a video that shows how I did my Federation ranking -- it outlines a straight-forward method for getting it done. Maybe not the fastest way, but it worked. For Empire you'd do the same thing, but in another system like Wu Guinagi or such.

I'll post the video here in case you find it helpful.

Good luck!

Realize I'm way late to the party here, but if *I* were gonna Imp rep grind [and I'm still in the middle of it] I'd go T6 until I could get a courier, and then courier until I was done.

"Wait, WHAT"?! I hear everyone crying from the peanut gallery.

The T6, when D spec'd out, can get around 30 LY + carry a MASSIVE FS, making it a perfect shuttle +. It CAN do cargo, has just enough weapon capacity to carry mines for those pesky interdictors... and for some reason I CANNOT FATHOM it's SUCH a joy to fly.

Unlike the Python which, when you first get it, feels like you're in a cobra again . . . until you fly something like a courier, clipper, or FDL, at which point it starts to feel a bit sluggish.

If you want you can move up to a courier if you're doing HIP 10716/Wu Guinagi courier missions. . . not much for cargo but the ship is a dream in blue neon to fly, with the added bonus that interdictions become fun when it's A spec'd with a few pulse lasers and multi cannons.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm only 48% into Baron...
