Ships Python or FDL?

Seems a bit wonky to me still - they said Fire at Will was fixed but I'm not sure.
Got interdicted on my Type 9 which is mostly turrets and they didn't do anything after the pirate turned red.
Had to quickly switch to Target Only and they started firing then.

I am pretty sure you have to have them bound to a fire group to trigger them or something like that. I think this was something in the 1.3 change list.

Python should be much better all round for powerplay...however...and I don't want to stir things up with this question, but have the nerfed the manoeuvrability again? I used to be able to use FA off and short bursts of acceleration and deceleration to find the smaller targets, but now I find I can't which is making me feel quite vulnerable and having to use turrets. Of course this may just be my imagination...anyone else found this?

I swapped my A rated combat Python some time ago for a discounted Anaconda. Instantly I regretted it. But after fitting the Anaconda out for long distance trading, I soon made enough to get another one at a discount. I've almost finished re-fitting her for war and will never part with her again. "My Precious".

Where did you get one at a discount?

Vulture is a good enough combat ship you can afford to loose.
As FDL has no better fuel tank as Vulture, he wouldn't bring enough for his cost.

So I would go for Python, knowing it would cost me more and is not a "sexy" ship, but it is more versatile and has better range.

I wish just once, when discussing the python vs the FDL, people would stop bringing up how the python is a better trading ship. Can't we do a pure combat comparison for a change?

"Should I get the python or the fdl for my dedicated combat ship?"

"The python, because it's more versatile."

". . ."

"More versatile ship" don't only mean "Better trading ship".
Even as combat ship, the Python is more versatile.

What does it mean to be more versatile as a combat ship? Imagine I am trying to pick between the fdl and the python, and you tell me that the python is more versatile in combat. How does that help me decide -- you didn't explain what you mean by that at all. All I know is someone used a vaguely positive word "versatile" to describe the python.

People who tell me you can fit a python as a trading ship are correct, but are not answering the question of "what combat ship should I use?"

Combat can mean : RES hunting, warzone, bounty hunting thru one or more system, with or without interception, community goal 200 LY away ...
Python can do all this with more flexibility as a FDL. Can even do combat refuelling for escort fighters on long range missions.

And to the question "what combat ship should I use" which is not what the OP asked precisely, the good answer is "the ship you can afford to loose".
Which is why the Vulture is so good.

Python hands down. If you can keep the Vulture for combat (it's a fantastic in that role), grab the Python and start trading (it will replace what you're doing with your Type 7 right off). Even a D rated Python is one tough ship, and a fantastic trader. From there, take your time upgrading her. I don't have a Python yet, but my son has one, and he wouldn't give it up for any ship in game. I'm an extreme small ship guy, but I will get a Python because she's so versatile, she's the Cobra of the Cruisers.
Just bought my first Python, sure its pretty basic Cargo spec, but I like it. Got Interdicted first run out full of Cargo by a wing of 3 Eagles, I was worried at first because the Python doesnt Turn so well.... but I soon calmed down when I saw even my Class E Shields where hardly affected by their fire! I managed to haul its nose up and took all three down very quickly with 3 Large Pulse Lasers and 2 pulse turrets heheh. Another thing I'm impressed with..it has no power issues! The first ship in along time that I am running with stock PSU E Class and I have about 5 MW spare! I wouldn't take it into a CZ though... its a little sluggish....
.
I have 2 Vultures and i will save up for a FDL too as you suggest.

like crap. 1.3 has broken the use of the turreted weapons. I had hoped they would have added a mode to leave them to auto target and fire.
Use turrets only since 1.3 in "target only mode".
Even if I don't see my target, I press once my fire button and turrets begin to fire on the target circling around me.
Help a lot having a python with 4 turrets : no more annoying Eagles around me.

I really love it : easy and efficient.
