Ships Python or FDL

o7 well lets get to the question what ship should I got for FDL or python

I want a good ship that can do well anything but still have good combat stats from what I have heared the FDL is realy good for combat but have bad jump range... I havent realy heared much about the python...

Thanks for the answers!

The FDL is a rich man's toy. It does one thing and one thing only -- which it does quite well... Once it gets there.

The Python is a practical, dependable vessel that will make you the money to get anything else you need in the game.

(Oh, and back when I had a python I succumbed to FDL fever and bought one; instantly regretted it, and wound up selling to rebuy the python. Nowadays I just pay to move my FDL between systems, and use it when I feel like tooling around in something fast, fun and powerful.)

I've got both and as earlier posts said they're not really comparable but they're both great ships, a solid FDL build will be about 90 mil a Python could easily be double that.

You won't fit 200 tons of cargo in an FDL and it'll struggle to jump more than 20 LY even with L5 FSD mods, however if you like the drifty flight model (complete opposite of a FAS) it's a hugely fun ship to fly, very fast (Thruster 5A – level 5 DDT 368 – 496 m/s @ 4 pips) and monster shields after engineering.

A mid to high spec engineered Python will jump around 26 LY empty 20 loaded (around 200 T cargo), speed (Thruster 6C – dirty drive tuning level 5 :– 316 – 412 m/s @ 4 pips, perhaps another 30 m/s with a 6A), engineered agility is pretty good and it has a powerful PD to drive a wide range of weapons (this is where the FDL struggles a little especially with an energy weapon loadout)

As an all rounder the Python wins easily but a well sorted FDL will put a huge grin on your face, basically you need both but I'd start with the Python as you find a lot more ways to make credits using it then buy the FDL!

Tnx for all the answers I got a Python and started modding it starting with the weapons and the power distributor

Actually, you've answered your own question.
You want a ship which can do everything, ergo a multirole ship which excludes the FDL to begin with.

The Python will give you excellent hauling capacity, great survivability, excellent firepower at the cost of jumprange. But all those aspects can be tweaked...

excellent firepower at the cost of jumprange

... compared to a FDL, the pythons jumprange is amazing... and stripped down it could reach >30 ly before engineering, beats a cobra, it is an underestimated exploration ship (especially because it can take exploration-outfitting-very well).

I love my Python nearly as much as I love my anaconda, but back on thread, I did the Python-FDL thing and instantly regretted it as well, rebought Python and its a workhorse of a ship. Love it.
If a ship cant make me serious money, get me where I want to get and make me smile then I'm not interested, FDL didn't fit either sentiment.

I want a good ship that can do well anything but still have good combat stats

That is the perfect definition of a Python.

The FDL is a luxurious fighter. In fact, it's an absolutely outstanding luxurious fighter, my preferred ship for owning face. But that's all it does. If you want to do anything other than perform mass genocide, go with a python.

You're correct in stating that stripped the Python has got the jumprange to be an effective explorer Goemon, but my comment was in terms of a fully kitted pythonj not in correlation to the FDL. If you build your python to haul a more than respectable amount of cargo, with sufficient survivability and the firepower to fry any would be (npc-)pirate, that jumprange just plumits.
