Python or Lakon Type9?

Hey CMDR's,

Looking for your opinions.

I've now managed to spec out an ASP will all A class modules. Very nice, tough little ship. I can mostly take out Anacondas, with only the occasional one giving me any trouble. I thank the group for all the tips i was given in this area.

My other ship is a nicely kitted out Lakon 7. This has A class FTL and is very capable of making 2.5 million an hour.

I'm looking for my next ship. This will be either a Python or Type 9. I really fancy the Pyhon; but is it really a viable transporter? Should I wait the extra 2-4 days and sink my money into an upgraded Type 9? With this fully kitted out with cargo containers it shouldn't take too much time to grind a Python.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

PS. When I say grind I don't mean this in a boring way. I am actually enjoying the mechanic. It's quite relaxing.

Get the Python first even if you plan to get a Type-9 - it's a good stepping stone.

When you get the type-9 leave plenty of credit headroom to kit it out - the default jump range isn't good at all.

Second getting the Python first. Full shielded trade fit should be 278t, which will make up the loss on sale in a few hours and, at the very least, provide a more enjoyable way to get to the 100m you need for a useful trade loadout in the Type 9 plus trade float. But remember to get a fuel scoop!

Bear in mind that you need to budget for maxed FSD and cargo upgrades for the T9 to make it useable. Play with a few fits on http://www.edshipyard.com/ before buying.

Edit:
Minimum useful spec T-9: http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=30Y,mpV5QG5QG,2-A0Ba9Y8SA06u9s,0DI0Bk0AA7Sk07207205U05U03w

500T over 12.8LY. You can tweak fuel tank size and drop a bit of cargo if you need to extend range. Assumes a short shuttle run with no scooping.

Minimum useful spec trading Python: http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=305,mpV5QG5QG,2-9YA07_6uA0A08I,0AA0AA0AA08c08c7RA4zM05U03w

268 over 16LY. Assumes use of fuel scoop. If you have a shuttle run, drop the scoop and you get 276 cargo.

I buyed the Python, then i buyed the Lakon Type 9 and then i rebuyed the Python. Why? Because the Type 9 is sooo damn slow. Additionally you have a hard time if you get interdicted. Iam now saving money for the anaconda and use this ship for the bigger trading. Buy the Type 9 if you have no problems in spending hours of hours in a slow boring ship while you can easly destroyed by others. Only good point for the Type 9 is the big cargo room.

Python is not a big enough upgrade to the T7 as a pure trader, especially if you keep your Asp for other tasks. If your goal is a 'conda, get the T9 to get there.

Type-9.

An effective Python costs more than an effective Type-9 and will earn you two-thirds less. Get a Type-9 and print your own money then get everything else.

A full trading fit Python costs 80m, a full trading fit Type-9 costs 103m (see links above), one is a very good stepping stone to the other, it only makes sense to buy a Type 9 when you have identified a stable shuttle trade route.

Or do it my way and buy both ;)

Can't I try before I buy?

I do get my combat fix from the ASP, yet Anacondas still give me a challenge. How are Pythons in these situations? Do they offer no challenge at all?

Bill quiz is in the house :)

I bought a Python first as well, then traded it in for a Type 9 a day later. It pretty much doubles my profits from trading. Getting the Python back with a Type 9 is much easier imo than getting a Type 9 with a Python. This is from a trading perspective though.

Depends on how much pain and frustration you can endure.

The L9 is just plain terrible to fly in normal and frameship space. And it's jump range is really mediocre even with A6 FSD.

For me it's right on the threshold of bearable. Before I said goodbye to another 32t of Cargo space and got a A5 fuel scoop it was unbearable for my multihop route.

I think after reading your comments, the Type 9 is the way to go. it may take longer to get my toy( The Python), but the sheer money earning potential of the Type 9, especially when only trading luxury goods within a single system wins the day. I was earning just over 3.5 million an hour today in type 7(216 tonne) doing the same, so 500 odd tonnes will make short work of earning credits for my Python.

Thanks for your advice.

Happy gaming.

I was planning on using the Python as a stepping stone to the Type 9, but now that I've got it I can't imagine ever selling it.

Also, there's no reason NOT to buy the Python as a stepping stone since you'll make significantly more than the Type 7 and you lose almost nothing when you sell it back.

I swapped from a python to a type 9, hoping to make loadsamoney before swapping back. The type 9 was so hateful to fly and so slow I swapped back to a python again just to save my sanity and wrist from RSI.

I don't earn as much in a python, but I can stop off at an anarchy planet on my trade route. Earn a couple of hundred K in bounties, as well as boost my combat rank so I'm killing 2 birds with one stone.

Kudos to anyone who puts up with a type 9, I couldn't for more than 2 days. The worst handling and most boring ship in the game imho

The Type 6/7/9 series also drive me mad. Asp and Python was a relief. However unlike the Asp, the Python isnt all win. The Anaconda would be my next perfect upgarde paper wise. But I just dont like the look of it.

For me HOTAS is a must, more importantly rudder pedals, I couldn't fly the T9 without them, it's my favorite handling ship next to Clipper. Just bought an Orca to test out, hated it.. The ship rolls like an Eagle :/ It's meant to be a Cruise liner in space.

You either love or hate these big ships, T9 is the only ship in the game that feels like you are actually in command of 1800 tons of machine. If I want the sports car feel I'll jump into my Viper.
