Python owners opinions of the Krait.

I've had a break from ED and will jump back in for the new release. I'd seen the Krait and like the look of it. I've seen some videos on it and they seem to liken it to the python. That's just a few people's views of course.

I was wondering what owners views are on the ship.

I'm quite a long way out in the galaxy and I don't want to make the trip back without feeling more informed really.

Cheers.

Flying both in support of Patreus. I think the Krait is better (more fun) in combat, but like the 192T of cargo I can put in my Python and still defend myself or take on the occasional combat mission. Like the view better from the Krait. Just purchase my APAs and am in the process of engineering them on both ships. Really like being able to have more than one and still not over-heat. Glad I can keep both, just wish there was a way to fly them both at the same time, but that would just be wrong.

I own both. I love the Python. It was my first ‘big-ship’ and it remains the king of the medium pad ships in overall versatility.
The Krait MKII sacrifices capacity and versatility to add a better view and SLF capacity. Slightly faster, slightly more maneuverable.

As with most ships in the game, each has their use. I fly a Krait because I like the view and layout. I look forward to the Krait Phantom as a non-SLF alternative.

The Krait outperforms a Python in every aspect other than cargo capacity. The Krait is more agile, faster, jumps further than a python AND it has a fighter hatch, and it even has one more crew slot so you can have a human fighter pilot, gunner and yourself as helm. Although being honest with you the Krait is so agile you don't really need turrets which negates the need for a gunner, so two seats would cover it IMHO.

The downside of it is there are less optional internal slots, so its very much a ship that you build for a purpose and it excels at whatever task you load it out for, but you dont have the space to carry everything upto and including a kitchen sink to be prepared for every eventuality which you can do with a python.

As an owner of both ships, I'd put it like this; It depends on your priorities as a CMDR. If you really need the cargo space or a ship that has nothing fancy going for it, get a Python. However, if your priority is a ship that can get in and out of a spot of trouble (especially if that trouble is local law enforcement) use a Krait Mk.2 instead.

Krait
The Krait is faster, more nimble, has a better jump range, seats three, has SLF capabilities, and is less conspicuous (it is less likely to be scanned first in a group of ships).

This ship aims to misbehave.

Python
The Python has a more condensed firing angle, holds more cargo, and is tankier.

This ship is a no frills multirole vessel and the best medium legal cargo runner.

I bought a Krait (two actually) shortly after introduction because it looked very promising as a bounty hunting alternative to the Python. Disclaimer: I only PvE.

But after playing with it for a bit, I realized that yes, it is slightly more maneuverable than my Python, and it can carry a SLF, but it doesn't have the durability/longevity in a haz res or CNB that a Python has. And for what I do, it doesn't need a SLF (and neither does a Python).

So I got rid of the bounty hunter and keep the modules handy for when I want to switch my Python back and forth from a armed trader to a more hardened bounty hunter.

My other Krait is outfitted for light-duty exploration, and is sitting patiently awaiting the upcoming release so I can go play in the black for a while. While mine is not configured as a hard-core explorer, it can jump 53Ly, boost to 567 (for skimming planets), and can go 438Ly on a tank of gas.

It even has 182Mj of shielding for bumping into objects and stuff. :D

A 5A AFM and a 4G SRV hanger round out the package.

It’s another ship.

I own one, been flying it the past few nights because it was closer than any of my pythons and less expensive to ship, plus it lets me train another NPC.

Better in combat despite the theoretically inferior stats due to superior agility. Provided you only shoot thing in the top third of your vision :)

But, I just discovered its true nature. BGS runner! Downgrading the shield to C5 it holds 184t, right for the most common cargo missions (120y and 180t), and unlike the Python, it can scoop things!!!!!! So it's good for the retrieval missions too. And dropping the fuel scoop you can also fit a planetary hangar for surface missions.

Great idea! 53LY jumps? Looking forward to the new Explorer tools, will have to try exploring in a Krait--Coriolis build available? Either-way, thanks for the post Cmdr, o7.

Like I said, nothing special, but with the cockpit view and being able to carry a bit more than my AspE I'm looking forward to doing a bit of exploring. I might even make it to the center of the galaxy this time. :D

The Krait is a Mazda MX5 and the Python is a Toyota Camry.

I prefer flying the Krait for pretty-much everything simply 'cos it's faster and more agile but I revert to the Python when I need ultimate ability - either in cargo capacity or defensive capability.

*EDIT*

As above, I think it helps differentiate between the Krait and Python (if that's what you want to do) to think of the Krait as more of a super-Asp than as an alternative to the Python.

Weaker hull, even better flight model, has a fighter. 192t cargo (the python signature) renders it very squishy unfortunately, so the python is still the boom delivery king. Krait is a great combat ship though, that 3 bar boost, lovely. :)

Well, I got 2 Pythons and a Krait, among others. One of the Pythons was converted to a mining ship, the other one serves down in the Pleiades as jack-of-all-trades. The Krait is my flagship vessel. I really love the Python, but in VR, it looks kind of old inside, where the Krait has a Millennium Falcon nerd atmosphere including an espresso machine (vital item in my life), a Krait Mk. I model and other cool stuff this like this. The Python's problem (for me) is that it's a really cool ship, but the Krait just feels more 'at home'. Just like FAS vs. Chieftain, and I love the FAS. If they bring out the Krait Phantom and it's a cool explorer...don't tell my Conda. Buy one, maxed out to lvl 5 everywhere at Shinrarta, 170m is all you need. Then decide for yourself.

Ah, the centre of the galaxy: trusty West With The Night did it again. It's cool, but still a long journey.

o7 Cmdr, the only thing better than learning from the mistake of another is learning from their success (my twist on the highest form of flattery is imitation). Looking forward to going exploring soon.

And here is mine, currently cruising about in Colonia. Unfortunately you need to upgrade the thrusters one class if you want a fighter bay, but overall you'll only lose like 2-3ly, which is still a whooping 57ly jumprange.
