Python to Anaconda

I used 2 versions of the Conda. A pure trader and a CG trader (CG's have a much higher risk of running into pirates and other hostile CMDR's so I sacrifice cargo). My main trade ship can handle itself fine in random encounters. Organized and planned attacks takes some extra shield strength to survive.

CG Conda

Standard Trade Conda

Now before everyone gets all up in arms about the 4A shield generator, it works fine and opt/max is on hull mass (which is 400 on the Conda) and nothing else. Trust me. The only stat that matters on the Shield Generator is the MJS of strength. The CG Conda is pushing 1327 and the standard trade ship 969 (which is still stronger than most combat ships). Both of those are strong enough to deal with most player encounters. Its a trade ship, hence the reason for no weapons. If you get pulled over by a dedicated combat ship in a trade conda, and you try to fight you will most likely die. Better to just jump away, they can't follow you anyways. Most combat ships will not be able to catch up to a hi jump range trade conda. And if you get pulled over by anything less than another Conda, they can't mass lock you so you can low wake.

Also, O.P. The 7D are only offering you 1100MJS shield. 6A's will give you more shield strength and allow you to carry more cargo. If cost is an issue you can go with 6C's for now and be at 1057 shield strength compared to 1176 but have 400T Cargo. Then when you can afford the 6A's you can slap those on and be at 1225 shield strength and still have 400T cargo. You are also shooting yourself in the foot when it comes to your jump range. with only 12LY jump range, that's worse than the T9. The biggest advantage to a trade Conda is it's huge jump range. 19+LY opens all kinds of trade routes to me that I otherwise wouldn't do.

A little background. I am Tycoon rank, have only ever traded in Open and have never lost a Conda due to CMDR interaction.

Good luck out there CMDR.

I have adjusted my Conda with 6A FSD, 6C shields/7E Cargo, and a single 4A Shield Cell.

Much better, thanks deathmagnet. :)

Basically same std. trader as deathmagnet, with the addition of 3 pulse lasers to punish impertinent NPC sidewinders who dared to interdict me. Had to run though, when interdicted by my first ever NPC Deadly Anaconda, he just wouldn't die, that cheaky fellow.

Wow... is it a trading Anaconda? That's the most weird setup that I've ever seen and it is bad for everything. You do not need that many weapons for a trading ship. Anacondas are mass-locked only by other Anacondas, this means you will get away in almost any situation.

This is a trading Anaconda:

Then you find a good trade route and earn money for the combat ship, i.e. the ship that is good only for combat.

There are many version of a trading Anaconda, it all depends on how you want to play it and obviously how much cash you have. Personally, I have never run any ship without weapons and full sized shields. I also change & test weapon load-outs all the time, often on a weekly basis. This is currently my trading Anaconda for example.

The problem with your Anaconda is the low jump range. The only reason one uses an Anaconda to trade, is the brilliant jump range per ton (talking about 17-20 light years). For your jump range, most high profit single loops would be out of the question, and it would be cheaper and more profitable to do it in a T-9.

My favorite trade route is 28ly, requiring 2 jumps in the Anaconda, and 3 in the T9.

The problem is actually automatically assuming I need a longer jump range, the longest jump on my single jump trade triangle is 12LY. You outfit your ship to match what you need and want, it's as subjective as what music people choose to listen to, for example. It's my ship, not yours.

Old: E:D Shipyard A-Rated Python @ 163,991,285 CR
New: E:D Shipyard mostly D-Rated Anaconda @ 162,550,683 CR

Mainly to be used for trading and missions in Open with ~20M CR left over for insurance and cargo.

What do you think? Would you switch?

I switched but then switched back.
'Conda does make more money from trading but i didn't really like flying it as much, Python is SUCH a good personal ship when you get it well equipped, this is my current setup..Fuel tank is to allow me to fly out to enemy territory without worrying about stopping off. The ability to swap out for some light trading or even mining makes it really versatile.

Sorry not a fan Anaconda, specially as it stops you using outposts (Easy source for good trade routes).
Python with 256t and above average weapons and shields. Can outrun Anaconda.

So more cargo on Anaconda but have to trade station to station.

As for weapons, yes big and bad, but any competent pilot with a ship half it's size can remove it. Something that really needs game balance.

Then we get on to insurance and running costs. I have no reason to have one.

I found a good trade route - then sorted out what I could and couldnt have on my Conda. As long as I dont overload it to the point that it affects my max jump distance needed (19.5ly) then I put everything I can weapon/module wise on it that it will carry.

Anaconda with A4 shield generator, 3 A boosters and 5C boosters has stronger shields as a combat Python with A6 shield generator and 3 A boosters. If a player interdict you then he/she is going to fly on a ship spec'ed for combat and trading Anaconda has little chances against it, so you are not going to fight with a trading Anaconda against players. NPCs won't take out even a ring of your shields when you will jump out. So dealing with NPCs is a waste of time, and not gaining profit. Having something else than A4 shield generator is going to limit your cargo capacity and decrease your profits.

A6 shield generators would mean that I would earn 206k Cr less per 10 minutes. Each minute of my trade run costs 180k Cr. So losing cargo capacity and dealing with NPCs is a significant decrease of profits for me and is not viable.

I understand that, but also you need to understand that it's wholly subjective. You equip your ship and play your way, it's not the only way is it? Same principle as those players who choose to track credits/hour. To me personally, it's a completely meaningless and irrelevant value that didn't matter 6 months ago and won't matter X years from now when I'm still playing.

The key is to play the way you feel comfortable.

"Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia. Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it’s worth."

The other thing to take advantage of is the ability to just throw equipment in and try it out as currently there is no cost in doing so, beyond what it costs to buy it. So, where can I get shares in ship and equipment manufacturing? :D

There are plenty of routes between the large stations, and there are plenty of routes between the stations that are located close to the stars. And in this case the cargo hold size matters. So, if trading between station to station gives you 1.8M Cr per 10 minutes, why not get Anaconda for that?

And any competent Anaconda pilot will get away from trouble without difficulties. What needs to be balanced?

And what is wrong with insurance costs? And what is wrong with running costs?

Trading Anaconda insurance is around 6-7M Cr, i.e. about 1 hour of trading. By running costs you mean ~1.2k Cr refuelling?

I can make a similar comment quoting your posts from this thread or do you want to say that you are not using "I", "me", etc. in your posts but this won't lead the discussion anywhere. Everyone is free to post his/her opinion and to provide arguments for it.

For me it is simple - if I am trading then I am going for a maximum profit per time and I avoid any delays. If I want to fight, I take a different ship.

Agreed, but my quote was directed at your negative view taken of how I happen to equip my Anaconda, which is now different again than earlier. Then again, I have currently spent 2.4 billion credits on outfitting. :)
