Python's power requirements....

Last night I made it to Tycoon, so I stored my Anaconda and cleaned the Python from the mothballs!

I used to run it with a B7 (17million) plant, but I was struggling with the power management, I was using C sensors and B6 bank Cells.
At last I could afford the A7 (51million) plant. With it I could run all modules and finally use A6+A5 banks at the same time (and I have two sets). Less heat and higher performance!
That with A6 shield and 2xA0 shield boosters and the Python becomes a VERY tough customer.
I went against 6-7 NPC pirates in SSSs again and again.

Bottom line! The Python NEEDS this A7 plant! It is 34m credits very well spend. The only downside is the insurance that went to 12m with the plant and the military bulkheads...

I agree. It also needs the A rated thrusters, and shields. Once it is fully A rated it does become a beast. However, I would drop the bulkheads. If my shields ever drop fully then its time to run.

Well, I believe that most people who finaly get a Python, A-spec the distributor and the thrusters first..... and their cost is somehow resonable.
But just the Pland and the Bulkheads cost Python X 2 !!

This ship requires 4 times its initial value to trully become A!

6A plant is all you'll ever need vs NPCs. Running a fully loaded pulse / rail PvE combat config, sold the 7A plant as it was redundant. Got a good bunch of dosh towards FurryLance I wanna try soon.

PvP is of course a different story. You may want to, e.g., power two cell bank charges at any one time which 6A won't do.

Why A6? The B7 cost the same and gives 2MJ more power... The weight toll is just 40 tonnes and IMHO not really important....

A rated plants have the best heat dissipation.

I have an A6 in mine and it powers everything I need comfortably for all PVE content.

Agreed. No bulkheads on mine because of the weight and the price.

Heat (as mentioned by CMDR RustyLeg) and weight. 7B would nullify the savings on sensors and life support neither of which one needs higher than D-rated. Weight affects handling and AFAIK (don't quote me, haven't really tested it) shield endurance.

Basically the closer you are to your shield gen's optimum the better. Handlng is a no-brainer, an overweight Python handles like a total cow. So yeah, no bulkheads either.

shield gens optimum refers to base hull mass not fitted mass, you can add 500t it'll still have the same shields.

That being said overweight python is indeed a total cow so i'd never add extra mass anyway :p

With practice it really does only take a couple of seconds to switch one SCB off, and another on.

Doesn't the B rated SCB have more charges, and a greater overall return than A rated? So A is just more shield per second returned? Do B rated SCB's generate more heat?

The only difference I noticed regarding weight is the acceleration and stopping and I did my tests with and without 250t of cargo.
No noticable difference in turn rate....

The difference is being faster or slower than other pythons, if you are dealing with the AI this currently isn't a problem (though AI lady did say she was working on that) if its players its an enormous difference, the most threatening ship is one faster than you that masslocks.

For example my piracy setup runs 355 max speed, this ensures whenever I interdict a python I can control the engagement, if they run, i'm faster, if they are stronger, I can flee.

Yes, B banks give 6 charges. A banks give 5 charges. A6+A5 activated together fully charges the A6 shield + 2 A0 boosters from almost empty! The Python with a A7 plant can support 10 charges like that!

I use Beams and Missiles when PvP to cover this problem. Most ships cannot flee from a few missiles...

If they flee when shields are down they are already dumb :p though its good to hear missiles are now useable - the last time I tried them to stop people fleeing they were too slow, exploded early, or collided and did no damage, i even had one port behind me and hit me once. All together too unreliable for me at the time.

You should've been able to get the A7 Plant for a lot cheaper than 51M if you had shopped around the discount stores :)

.... more intel please....

Still not very effective, but they can do the job against a badly damaged fleeing ship...
