Q: If I upgrade to a hauler will I get money back for my upgrades on the old ship?

I'm thinking about upgrading the Sidewinder starter ship but am wondering if the money spend on upgrades is wasted.

Will the upgrades transfer to the new ship?
Will I get compensated in the sale for the upgrades?

You will be compensated for the upgrades. The price will go down the more upgrades you have and after a certain point you will actually get money back by buying a Hauler if you spend enough money on upgrades. This is of course assuming you sell your Sidewinder in the trade. You have the option to have more than one ship now in Beta 3.

Yes, you are paid the difference for the upgrades, hence the minus figure for some purchases.

Slightly OT, I would love to be able to buy ships with certain upgrades already installed. E.g., if I sold my tooled up Cobra, then someone could purchase it. Even better, if I have a ship in a hanger somewhere, I could put it on the market and make cash that way.

given the economics of it you would always be forced to sell a second hand ship at a loss.

I do like the idea of a player driven second hand market for ships but it would detract from the gameplay a little, finding parts and setting up a ship the way you want it is a big part of the game right now, a seconds market would very quickly fill up with topped out ships and the buyers would effectively shortcut the whole process of upgrading.
