Q - Switching Between Laptop and PC - Whats involved?

A question for anyone out there that switches play from PC to Laptop.

I got my gaming rig in the 'office' you know with the external radiator bells and whistles go fast stripes 4k monitor and all that jazz. Problem with that is it's in the office, sometimes I would like to sit in the living room, with TV on something I wanna watch and kinda relax.

There are things I do in game that don't require all the kit HOTAS and all that bloat.

Exploring, studying the galaxy map, selling data and mining in a 'safe zone' could all be done from the comfort of the living room with a laptop.

I have a very capable laptop.

What is involved switching between the two?
Is it much hassle?
I take it the key binding stay separate?
How hard is it to fly using keyboard and Touchpad?

Cheers

I play on both. Just install it and log in :)

All your keybindings are local to the machine, as is your logging level, but not much else so its pretty straight forward.

You could try to stream from the office to the living room TV via steam.

EDIT

sorry, that's not the answer you are looking for... Learn to read babelfisch...

Dont use keyboard and touchpad- use a mouse, and configure your bindings so that yaw is on your mouse and a and d on your roll- it makes life so much easier :)

Switching is no problem, you can run a copy of ED on more then one machine just fine. Once you done the installation process its just plain simple logging in as you know it.

Playing with the Touchpad tough... haven't actually tried it when I played ED on my laptop, I used a xbox controller. I imagine its horrible :D

"what is involved I switching between the two?"

Log off on one, log on on the other.

"Is it much hassle?"

No.

"I take it the bindings stay separate."

Correct.

"How hard is it to fly using the keyboard and touchpad?"

Practically impossible with the touchpad. Ben Ryder uses an all keyboard layout. I imagine that will be much more manageable.

Thanks all, installing now, just had to do a verification code for a new computer, I guess that only happens once?

Many thanks again. Will look into getting a joypad :)

There's an Xbox One controller that includes a cable for PC. It's just a USB cable - so am not sure if any XB1 controller works or only those with the cable....

I bought one recently - it arrived yesterday and was still in my bag - it doesn't need batteries to be recognised when plugging in to the PC.

Alternatively, the T.16000M is a relatively small stick and is quite smooth - an option?

Well I got PS4 and PS3 controllers, will they work?

I don't really want to be seen buying a XBOX controller - Personal choice n all that, but can't bear to have any xbox hardware in the house :)

Wireless xbox controllers do work with the PC but you need a Receiver for it. Alltough I'm not 100% sure how it is currently with Xbox one controllers, I know there was a time when they only worked wireless on Xbox 10 and for every windows below it you needed to use them wired. Not sure if it still works that way tough. And yes the USB Cable provides enough energy to power the controllers, Battery/akku is only needed when you use them wireless.

I travel with work alot, so bought a MSI Dominator Pro GT72 laptop with GTX980M, I used to have a projector too - for hotel walls (but the bulbs bust), so I play games with my reading glasses on that act like binoculars, while i lay on a bed with 4 pillows and all the towels...

1st you need a laptop cooling pad or something hard to put between your legs and the hot laptop - or you get burn't baby.
2nd left hand controller - I have a Logitech G13 keyborg, but a cheap USB number pad will do (thats what I used to use).
3rd right hand mouse - got to have at least 2 thumb buttons (i use for accelerate and decelerate).
4th some nice head phones, but hotel rooms don't always have air-conditioning - so you get sweaty - so I use some nice base Sennheiser in-ear-plugs.

5th left hand bed munchies, right had table beverages.

And off you go.....

I regularly switch between my home PC and laptop. I use a 360 gamepad for both. No issues what so ever.
Just log in, and away you go, right where you left off.
I recommend a gamepad over mouse and keyboard. Trackpad doesn't work to well at all IMHO.
You can either copy the bindings, or just make new ones.
