Since the ps4 version still states Q2 release on the official faq, do you think it'll be a safe bet we'll see a release for E3? Maybe use E3 as a launching platform (pun intended)?

I would be amazed if they didn't use E3 for the launch. But we don't have any official word if they are attending E3 yet (FD don't tend to announce these things until a couple of weeks before).
I dunno why they would wait for E3 to present the release on a new platform for an old game. IMHO, I'd use E3 to launch new stuff and ideas, rather than say "hey guys, here's a game we've been running for years, but now you can play it on another console!" That's not going to get the crowd excited... Haven't seen many developers go that route - ports are not flashy enough. PAX I can see, but E3 is a slightly different beast entirely.
Now I could see presenting the VR experience linked with PSVR as a flashy twist on an older game, but waiting to announce the launch of an old game on a different console might not get the best reception - especially on that stage. And it would give Frontier enough intrigue to fill the lines at the booths.
All opinion of course so keep that in mind.

You may find that it is Sony that'll push the launch announcement to E3, especially as they have said that they'll be focussing on games this year rather than hardware.

I think alot will deppend how smoothly 2.3 lands next week on pc and xbox tbh! Fdev aren't renowned for smooth patch releases lol so I'd guess the last thing they want is potential issues on pc, xbox and a ps4 launch!

It's been quiet from FD so far and I believe they announced 30 days before the release on XBox. Sony PlayStation may have requested a hold on announcement for one of their "and it's available right NOW" announcements. Its my hope that this ties to a VR mode surprise at E3 I think that is a big enough deal to showcase all this at E3. VR is very important to Sony. Yes I want it today but hey this would be a magic moment I love to see also!
According to what I read, the Xbox GPP for Elite Dangerous was announced by Microsoft on the 15th June 2015 and released the same day. The full release was about a month in advance. Announced in newsletter #90 early September 2015 for the game release in October 2015. If they are holding it back just to announce VR I will be annoyed. I have no interest and while I am sure many do, many do not. Although to be honest they FAQ is quite clear as they have said in live streams no VR for launch, so not sure they would outright lie either as that makes little sense either.
So the sooner the better for me, I seriously hope its not an E3 release.
