Q2 Release for E3?

Since the ps4 version still states Q2 release on the official faq, do you think it'll be a safe bet we'll see a release for E3? Maybe use E3 as a launching platform (pun intended)?

Shhh... keep it quiet. Try not to put ideas in Frontiers head.

An E3 reveal would mirror the Elite announcement for Xbox and would, as you said, also hold to the Q2 release.
However, I would still like to have it announced for May.

I would be amazed if they didn't use E3 for the launch. But we don't have any official word if they are attending E3 yet (FD don't tend to announce these things until a couple of weeks before).

I dunno why they would wait for E3 to present the release on a new platform for an old game. IMHO, I'd use E3 to launch new stuff and ideas, rather than say "hey guys, here's a game we've been running for years, but now you can play it on another console!" That's not going to get the crowd excited... Haven't seen many developers go that route - ports are not flashy enough. PAX I can see, but E3 is a slightly different beast entirely.

Now I could see presenting the VR experience linked with PSVR as a flashy twist on an older game, but waiting to announce the launch of an old game on a different console might not get the best reception - especially on that stage. And it would give Frontier enough intrigue to fill the lines at the booths.

All opinion of course so keep that in mind.

I tend to agree. The only reason I'm waiting for the ps4 is because I don't own an xbox and don't want to invest in a pc powerful enough to run the game. I suppose an E3 release might bring the game to the attention of some ps4 users who are unaware of the game but I suspect there are far more like myself who don't need E3 to make us aware or motivated to the get the game. I believe it would be a mistake to delay release of the game if it is completed prior to E3 because they run the risk of losing currently motivated buyers who might find a different game in the meantime.

As 2.3 release 16 April, I'm still hoping/praying for 30 April PS4 release. That'll allow 2 weeks to iron out any post release issues. I do think that there will be an announcement at E3, but that will either be PSVR, 2.4, or official announcement for Season 3. Just my two pence worth lol

Hopefully we wont have to wait that long but I would not be surprised if that's when we get it. June 15th release confirmation to mirror Xbox then?

You may find that it is Sony that'll push the launch announcement to E3, especially as they have said that they'll be focussing on games this year rather than hardware.

I'm sure they will but I doubt it will be anything more than an sidebar announcement bundled with other stuff, like XOne did with backwards compatibility with 360 games. It's a nice highlight, but more like the marching band rather than the Snoopy balloon on Thanksgiving. But hey... it's all conjecture at this point.

I guess it is possible but the longer the release is delayed the more sales Sony loses to pc and Xbox. It isn't exactly a ground breaking announcement. The game has been available for a couple years. I see more downside than upside to delaying the release. My guess is when the game is finished it will be released.

I think alot will deppend how smoothly 2.3 lands next week on pc and xbox tbh! Fdev aren't renowned for smooth patch releases lol so I'd guess the last thing they want is potential issues on pc, xbox and a ps4 launch!

The forums would melt! ;)

Undoubtedly true.

It's been quiet from FD so far and I believe they announced 30 days before the release on XBox. Sony PlayStation may have requested a hold on announcement for one of their "and it's available right NOW" announcements. Its my hope that this ties to a VR mode surprise at E3 I think that is a big enough deal to showcase all this at E3. VR is very important to Sony. Yes I want it today but hey this would be a magic moment I love to see also!

According to what I read, the Xbox GPP for Elite Dangerous was announced by Microsoft on the 15th June 2015 and released the same day. The full release was about a month in advance. Announced in newsletter #90 early September 2015 for the game release in October 2015. If they are holding it back just to announce VR I will be annoyed. I have no interest and while I am sure many do, many do not. Although to be honest they FAQ is quite clear as they have said in live streams no VR for launch, so not sure they would outright lie either as that makes little sense either.

So the sooner the better for me, I seriously hope its not an E3 release.

Yes a preview version was released but game play was deleted for the Oct launch of the full game. Cash Value was given for lost items and ships. I don't feel the FAQ is clear at all.

"Will Elite Dangerous support PlayStation®VR? Elite Dangerous is a flagship VR game on PC so of course VR is important to us. It’s definitely something we’re looking into, but we have nothing to announce for launch."

I just took it as nothing to announce now for launch. Not a clear No and kinda vague. I am seriously excited about Elite Dangerous on P4! Any thing form anyone other then a official announcement is yes just a opinion and guesses. Feelings and excitement slipping out, but yeah you could be 100% spot on Also! Yes so I agree release Elite Dangerous ASAP and VR release and news at E3!! [yesnod]
