Query on 2.1 Update

Hi,

I loved the newsletter today, excellent stuff indeed. 2.1 looks like it'll be a cracker.

However, I'm wondering if mining is getting any love in 2.1? I've not read a single word about it so I'm inclined to think not? :(
 
There's going to be a lot more news coming about 2.1, so it's possible, but personally I wouldn't expect it, given that mining was fairly recently updated and worked on. I think mining is in a really good place right now.

planet based mining would be epic and would actually give me a reason to head down to a planets surface which I don't have atm. ;)
 
I wouldn't rule anything out from 2.1 at this point.. looks like the update will be huge and changes affecting (possibly) all areas of the game.. surface mining may well be in there yet :)

I think this will be coming at some point but like yourself, I really have no idea if in this patch.
Would be cool though.
It's not that high on my list, we'd need dedicated Mining SRV's and they've never been mentioned regarding this patch.
They seem to be focusing of fleshing out the game first, which is a good thing.

My though is that if they add planetary mining they do it similar way than mining in ships works maybe just with srv. Active mining but no passive, like no some equipment that we can deploy and leave to collect stuff.

Better high-end profit, more durable limpets, better module size to active limpets ratio, maybe even a chance to lase loot/quest items out of rocks. Maybe work out some of the bugs. Basically QoL stuff and some more nuance. Still, mining has come a long way since launch.

I have been quite critical of FD recently (in retrospect some justified but most not) and been rather hasty in adopting that approach to anything they did. This newsletter has sparked my interest in the game once more : A new HUD; new content; new toys; some bugs squashed & hopefully AI improvements (cheers for MoM!) so what's not to like ?!

Credit where it's due - the delay in announcing anything (despite the nay sayers) was worth it!
 
Well I have to say the newsletter has made me much more optimistic about 2.1

I was starting to worry, I'm still not sure about the engineer mods (I've only seen 3 which is only 10% so withholding judgement for now) but I'm loving the base game updates.

Keep it coming please FD :)
 
I am still waiting for two mining buffs which may very well never happen but would let me truly enjoy it:

- Limpets that do not auto-expire, but can refuel from the ship, be repaired onboard the ship etc.
- Refineries remember our choices what to eject and what to process. No, I don't want that gallite, and I don't want to tell you again and again that I don't want it.

Remaining mum on the details of what 2.1 entails meant we had to rely on our imaginations and the handful of table scraps we were told at Horizons launch we would be getting in around March. Considering how feature-bald Horizons was it's no surprise so many people took to the forums to demand a progress report.
 
Huge lasers/Mcs + engineers on FSD = the Fer de lance will finally be usable for people who are not die-hard fans of it.
 
Not sure there will be anything in 2.1.

Although there was that concept art for the MB-4 mining rig, I expect planetary mining to be SRV based to start with. FD did talk about asteroid bases, so maybe down the line we'll get our passive mining bases in space and on the ground.

right now the FDL's biggest weakness is that it doesnt have access to good kinetic weapons. So 4 C2 pulses + Huge MC = exactly what is needed for ripping apart pythons and condas.
And I can just imagine running 2 Huge MC on my Corvette....

Maybe, but one thing we all should keep in mind (rightly or wrongly) is that FD are behaving no different than they have always been - even back during the KS time when backers were worried we wouldn't make the target we were screaming out for information - anything just to get more backers. FD still did their thing - dripped information out in a true British stiff-upper-lip fashion but we still made it over the finish line.

Part of the problem (and mine) is a lack of patience - FD will reveal all when they're ready :)

The FDL is one of the best whaling ships in the game. Man the C4 PA harpoons!
