Quest 2 Ordered.... I have more questions

Hey guys my quest 2 arrives Wednesday, i had one last juant in the CV1 last night before selling it. As is my custom i have devolved to a 12 year old and every minute is like a lifetime and i now spend all day watching Q2 you tube videos asking "is it Wednesday yet"

two videos have caught my attention though

Wireless PC games vs Link, there seems to be a few different takes on how it works but as this headset is almost entirely going to be used for ED i was wondering if any Q2 owners have/do use it in wireless?

The other video keeps popping up regards changing/upping the resolution. Have any of you does this and what effect you feel its had

really appriciate some thoughts

I still love my Q2!

EDIT
Make sure your Q2 and Home software have both updated to V23 or you will be using Beta Link which is rubbish. It took my device a few days to update. The difference when Link left beta was night and day. It will say Beta when you use the Link if it hasn't updated.

I can and have used wireless in ED but choose not to.
Why?
I see little point because it is a cockpit game and you can rest the cable on something to make it weightless. Here is why I prefer wired:
  • Battery lasts far longer when wired
  • I think you get better performance because you can go from Oculus runtime instead of Steam. (Karl Gosling did a test using G2 and a wired up Q2 and matching as close as he could the resolutions. Both devices performed identically using SteamVR, which suggest Oculus software is more efficient for ED seeing as Oculus runs even better in ED than Steam, though yrmv of course.)
  • I find SteamVR doesn't render scale as well as Oculus Runtime does for ED. Things look smaller in SteamVR compared to Oculus runtime and the star field looks nearer.

If that is for the standalone, I haven't bothered using it. To do it you need to activate it using Sidequest.
For PCVR using link you go in the Oculus settings for the headset. Setting the slider to max is native for Q2, with 1.0 setting the recommended from Oculus.
For PCVR wireless, you need to change the quality setting in Virtual Desktop.

Hope that helps a little

I haven't really noticed any difference visually when playing through the link cable or wirelessly, so personally I prefer to go the wireless route as I prefer not to have any wires getting in my way, even if it's just hanging over my shoulder. I have the elite battery strap and also a couple of power packs. But in all honesty, thus far I've never spent long enough in it to run both the elite battery strap and the headset battery right down, and I was using it for a good couple of hours or more the other day. With a power cell plugged into the back of the elite battery strap, you'll have more than enough juice for a long session, about 4 hours I'd say. Using the link cable, which you have to plug directly into the headset as the battery strap has no pass through, it just sits at 100% for the entire session. So if you're going to spend all day playing ED in VR then use the link cable, otherwise the VD route works just fine too.
