Quest 3: Gaming Laptop recommendations?

Hi folks,

I already own a Quest 3 and would like to use it for ED with a (preferably affordable) gaming laptop. Do you have any recommendations regarding the required specs ?

TIA, Mike

Ok, whoever may come across this thread in the future might find the following helpful:
I experimented with the „Shadow PC“ cloud gaming options prior to buying an expensive new rig, to find out if Elite Dangerous VR „works for me“.

With the „Boost“ option of Shadow PC, I was able to get a fully wireless VR setup which runs quite smooth on the Quest 3. In fact, it woks so well that I am perfectly content with it for now. And of course ED in VR really is a blast !

I’ve got the same setup (Quest 3 via Shadow PC) but it’s really laggy for me despite a 500 Mbps connection over WiFi 5 on FTTP. Do you have any advice on how you got it running smoothly? Are you using SteamVR or just running it on its own?

SteamVR gave me a very bad experience, it is much better with Virtual Desktop (available in the Meta Store on the Quest). On Shadow PC, you have to install the VD Streamer app for Windows. In Elite Dangerous, the "VR medium" preset works best for me, terrain set to "high" in case you are doing on foot stuff.

In the VD Streamer app: Set the streaming quality on your local shadow PC display to 1 mbps, and on your VR headset to 50 mps. This way you avoid needing the double bandwidth with an unnecessary HQ display of your gaming stream onto your regular monitor.
