Newcomer / Intro question about aiding ship in distress

Have been reading forums and looking at videos. getting the game this weekend. One big question. Say you are flying and you get a distress signal of a capital ship under attack. just like in elite dangerous trailer. You accept signal and off you go. You come out of hyperspace and see the capital ship under attack by enemy fighters. you and others join to assist. You are on the tail of enemy fighter, near the capital ship, firing away, some shots miss and hit capital ship. Do you now have a bounty on you because you missed and hit a friendly? Maybe not wise to respond to distress signals?

Don't know about the situation you describe but the other day I was engaged in a dogfight with a wanted CMDR. All of a sudden a security vessel came out of nowhere and flew between me and my target (he actually squeezed himself in between). Of course he got hit by my lasers as well and I ended up with a bounty.

Honestly I've been playing around for the last month and I've only seen a single Capital (Fed, hanging around an Independent system). In regards to conflict zones; they're located in the systems and are easily found in supercruise. but if you're a new starter don't head into the zones in your little sidewinder until you get something a little more... durable.
