Question about animal stats in challenge mode

I've mostly played in franchise mode, but my internet was out for a couple of days, so I started a challenge zoo. I noticed that the genetic stats of some of my animals plummeted after they had been in the zoo for a while. For instance, a wolf I bought from the trade center that was in the "green" above sixty percent range on size and lifespan and in the "yellow" for immunity and fertility ended up dropping in all four of these, so it had two yellow and two red genetic ranges instead. Similar changes occurred in some of my other animals but not all of them.

Another thing I noticed is that when I clicked on some of my animals in the trade center, their green genetics bars were displayed as gray, though the yellow ones were still yellow.

Is this a bug of some kind, or is this "genetic decay" an intended feature in the challenge mode. I haven't noticed something similar happening in franchise, so I assume it's not just an aging or stress-related consequence. In any case, the animals genetic potential for these traits wouldn't drop like that with age, aside from its actual fertility in some species.

I thought all along that ChallengeMode had its own scoring system. A different one than the FranchiseMode. What gives a yellow score in the franchise, gives a green score in the offline mode. In Franchise a 50% Score has a yellow bar, in Challenge Mode it is a green bar.

It is also like this in sandbox mode and has been since the beginning. I always look at the numbers when buying animals knowing that anything in the 50's will show as green in the market but yellow in the zoo. If anything shows yellow in the market, I try to avoid buying it.

Anything I buy 60 or above will stay green. The number stats don't change, just the color stats are different.

ETA: There is a report in the Issue Tracker about this that also includes screenshots:
