Question about buying an Alt Account?

Looking for some help on multiple Cmdr Accounts

Primary game profile is a regular PC account, as an founder kickstarter backer. I'd like to buy another account on Steam.

Does anybody know what the implications are of having the same email registered on both copies of the game?

I don't think thats possible.
You log into the launcher with an e-mail adress. One adress, one account. Its basically your username.
Every alt account needs a different e-mail adress.

I use a single gmail account for all of my altCMDRs.

gmail allows an alias (of sorts) to be created ad-hoc simply by adding a "+" and some text after the name element of the gmail account name, i.e. user@gmail.com will receive e-mails sent to user+cmdr#1@gmail.com; user+cmdr#2@gmail.com; etc.. Each of the e-mail addresses is treated as "unique" for the purposes of creating a Frontier account.

So I'd need to change the registered email address of either my original Elite account, or my Steam account?

I don't particularly want to do that - since I did this deliberately to keep things tidy... and I also don't have gmail, but suppose I could create one of those and change one of my accounts to that email...

Dunno what multiboxing is, I'm afraid?

I have an old friend who plays and is currently transiting slowly and sporadically from Colonia to Sag A*. I would like to wing up with him now and again. He isn't such an enthusiastic explorer as me and I get the impression that, as a result, logs on less than he would if he were back in the bubble. Our normal game times are not the same, however, so I wouldn't want to take my founder account all the way there for just a small amount of wing time overall. So an alt account ticks the boxes of being a wandering account, so that I can enjoy exploration as well as be around in my main account for other important updates like Golconda whenever they happen. It might also prompt him to log in a bit more and actually get his expedition completed sooner...
