Newcomer / Intro question about collector limpits

do probes into rings of planets that show hotspots, probes i send out into asteroids to see what materials are in them and one that i shoot out from my ship all fall under the 12 i can currently have on my ship?

also when the cargo scoop is out..do collector limpits automatically go out to collect or do i have to launch them by me setting them in my fire group when mining?

do i get those collector limpits back because they bring material to my ship?

ones i shoot into rings or asteroids i do not get back correct?

The rings probe is on your Detailed Surface Scanner and stands alone no limpits

You have to launch limpits and then open your cargo scoop for them to put stuff on your ship

Collectors have an expirey time limit before they stop working you dont get them back

The Detailed Surface Scanner probes are a separate thing from limpets and don’t require anything other than the DSS module to work. Prospector and collectors are limpets and besides their modules, the size and grade of the module determines how many you can launch, they require cargo space to be loaded into which is presumably where you get the 12 from.

You need a trigger for each type of limpet you wish to launch and collectors need an open cargo scoop to deliver their loot to you.

No limpet of any type can be reused however collectors will keep working until they do something stupid or time expire unless you have something collectible targeted when you launch them in which case they will go and collect that item and return it then expire but they run much faster in that mode.

They are mindless drones that deserve their fate - as evidenced by their total lack of survival instinct. I boost away and let them die from the range being exceeded while I plot my journey to the sell station.

Having discovered (I know... I KNOW) how the camera suite worked.... I spent most of today either watching the limpet collectors below my shop, or... (bizarrely) watching Holo-Me watching the limpets... which was weirder than mourning the little whistlers themselves.

I think I need space wine. I think I need lots.

Collector and fuel limpets put on a wonderful display for us, they are like a hybrid of the Mayfly and the Firefly.

The curious sight is watching someone get fuelled by limpets low above the surface of a planet with a rain of spent limpets falling down and piling up on the surface.

You should never have too much blood in your alcohol stream it can lead to delusions of reality.

Always use a better refinery for more bins, take more limpets than u need and then u can ditch them when u full
The size of refinery depends a bit on how focussed you intend to be, for casual mining where you will load up with only a few things then the big refinery with its extra bins is the right idea if you are going for a single target then it is better to fit a small refinery, because you will be setting unwanted ores to ignore the refinery isn't going to clog up and you can fit a larger cargo rack that will store more than a refinery.

Yes you should have around 90% of your cargo space loaded with limpets at the start of a mining trip. It can be frustrating if at the start you have to ditch limpets to make cargo space then run out of limpets at the end so always leave a little room for the first few loads.

Yep, i think a 6 bin, maybe even a 3 (is that the best size 2??) would be better for me on my keel, then i get an extra rack. Ty for reminding me. But still max the slot right?
